About Dorin Cirstea

I’m a 25-year-old GM from Bucharest with a background in engineering and a passion for storytelling. I enjoy diving into epic fantasy novels, binging action movies, and cooking. I bring the same curiosity and creativity from my hobbies into the worlds I run at the table, trying to engage player interests and hobbies.

I got started GMing...

Because I’ve always loved fantasy books, movies, and games, especially those that make you wish you could step right into the world yourself. Being a GM lets me do it, alongside other people with diverse experiences and preferences, which give the story authenticity and uniqueness.

My favorite shows/movies are

My favorite shows and movies are the ones that help me see the world through someone else’s eyes and pull me completely into their story. A few examples would be: Adventure Time, World of Warcraft, Blade Runner, and Cyberpunk 2077; worlds that feel strange but believable.

When I'm not running games I'm...

When I’m not running games, I’m leaning into the older ’90s brother vibe: listening to rock, reading comics, or getting lost in World of Warcraft. I like to unwind by cooking, playing my ukulele, or just watching my fish tank.

How Dorin Cirstea runs games

I blend tactical, challenging combat with plenty of roleplaying, both with NPCs and between players. I tailor sessions to what excites the table: be it epic action, tense negotiations, or character arcs, and run overlapping plots within a larger narrative, usually core fantasy with world-ending stakes. Combat leans on the challenging side, rewarding strategy and teamwork, while personal side quests let each character shine. I welcome new players and focus on keeping the table inclusive and comfortable for everyone.

I deal with rules issues by...

By first hearing the interpretation of the player, and making a call based on my assumptions and knowledge of the rules. I will, after the session, check the actual ruling and decide which of the two rulings will be used going forward.

My games focus on...

In-depth worldbuilding that the players may or may not engage with, NPCs that can be interacted with, and difficult decisions meant to showcase and inspire roleplaying and further developing PCs.

Rules are...

Important to keep an RPG structured, and important while they maintain stability and order at the table. Sometimes they can tamper with the fun of players, and so can be bent or changed when the need arises.

Dorin Cirstea's ideal table

My table is a good fit for players who enjoy roleplaying but aren’t afraid to optimize their characters a bit beyond a pre-made sheet. The vibe is roughly 60% Pulp Fiction: roleplay with the chance of combat popping up, and 40% John Wick: sometimes you just have to take out a few dozen people. When someone is in the spotlight, especially during important roleplay moments, I expect others to give them space and trust their own time to shine will come. Note-taking isn’t required, but it’s highly recommended, as recurring NPCs and plot threads often pop up.

I am for a vibe that's...

Usually light-hearted, with jokes and comments (usually in character, although no one is expected to roleplay 100% of the time), but with tense moments arising whenever the story would lead to them.

I love it when a player

Helps other players at the table with giving the spotlight in roleplaying scenarios, and actively tries to engage with the others at the table, not only their own dice and character sheet.
