About Skyler

While I've only been GM-ing for a few years, I've been co-writing stories since I was a child. This was the natural progression that I'd been preparing for my whole life. I wanted to be a writer in school, but ended up an artist, and when I found tabletop games, the love for storytelling came racing back. I never had much of a knack for words on paper, I'd much rather spend time telling fun stories with friends. I love the freedom and spontaneity that this form of gameplay brings.

I became a GM because

community storytelling is my passion. I love to tell a story, but I also adore being able to hear what others have to say. Everyone deserves to be seen and heard, I'm glad I get to do that for people.

My favorite shows/movies are

The Lord of the Rings Steven Universe Gravity Falls PoKeMoN (ALL of it) Avatar (James Cameron) Greese Charlie's Angels (2000) The Labrynth

When I'm not running games I'm...

being a mom, creating artwork, making spreadsheets, playing video games, reading books, gardening, cooking, being a rad individual.

How Skyler runs games

My #1 rule is that this is all about collaboration and teamwork. I play hard, I let the dice tell the story, and love to give everyone at the table a way to be an individual. I love the roll play elements, but can't help myself from at least one fight every session. I want my players to have lots of storytelling and interaction, but also ample room for spells and sword-wielding. My main goal is that my players remain engaged and having a good time. Sometimes that means high stakes, and sometimes that means being sensitive to the players needs.

I once ran a session...

at a library, and I had 7 new players that I had never met before! We did a lot of ice-breakers, and had a lot of laughs. I feel like since then, I could handle just about any surprise.

My games focus on...

lots of opportunities to roll play, while having enough clues to get you to the next place you want to be. You should never be floundering to figure out what to do next, if you are I'm doing my job wrong.

Rules are...

whatever we do, we do as a team. No one person against another, or me against the players, or the players trying to gang up on me. We are all in this together.

Skyler's ideal table

I like to have people who are bold and unafraid to be weird at my table. Jokes, romances, and violence are all welcome, as long as everyone talks about what's comfortable ahead of time. I am a very sensitive person, and so I like players who are sensitive to the needs of others as well. Overall, I just want to beat things up in games and hear us all have fun roleplaying.

romantic intrigue, humor, and fighting

I think it's a red flag when players...

give themselves magic items or other such items without consulting me. It's okay if it was from an old campaign, but please talk to me about it first. I also like to know how you do it if your stats are too high. Sometimes it just happens, but sometimes it's a little suspicious...

I think min/maxing...

is okay, as long as you don't get mad when I use rules as written to stop you or get back at you anyway.
