About Thomas
Hi, I'm Thomas. I got into D&D a few years ago, and I love to act and write, so DM'ing was a good fit for me. So far, everyone I've hosted for really liked my games, so I figured I'd give this a shot. I like to use the D&D rule platform, but I homebrew my worlds and some rules for fun and fair play! Generally, I follow the rule of cool and the rule of good storytelling unless it's stepping on the toes of another ability or character.

How Thomas runs games
One thing that sets me apart is that I have ways of keeping combat short and sweet. It's no secret that D&D combat is a SLOG, and I find that to be its greatest weakness, so I make it a point to keep things moving quickly for the fun of the whole party. I'm a performer, so I love the roleplay. I will always try to encourage getting into the character, and I present a lovable ensemble of characters. But I know there has to be more than that to keep everyone interested, and I like to take inspiration from many RPG adventure videogames such as Runescape, so I build my long-term campaigns with a heavy focus on quests, upgrades/rewards, material drops from mobs, rare boss drops, secrets, etc. (I'm even working on a robust achievement log for those of you who are completionists like me.) I have plenty of homebrew rules that I highly encourage players to run with, such as a permadeath system and no encumbrance (I have counterbalances to correct for how these things impact certain characters and stats.) But I try to work with the party if there's something they don't like. If you've got a suggestion, shoot it my way and I'll do my best to accommodate it! Let's have fun :)

My favorite trope is...
Enemies to lovers. You gotta throw in some enemies to lovers whenever you can.
Rules are...
Usually important for balance. I'm no rules lawyer, but I will keep an eye on rule-bending that steps on another ability. For example: If someone asks if they can shove with their shield in combat, I have to say no because that devalues the shield master feat. (Unless it's important for the story!)
Thomas's ideal table
Chill people who like to get into the roleplay, but also remember that this is just a game and we are here to have fun!

I think min/maxing...
is okay to an extent. In character creation, I give players 72 points to spend on their stats. Only one stat can be given 18 points, another stat up to 16, and the rest are capped at 15. I'm a gamer at heart, so I live for optimization. But I will intervene if a player overly exploits the system.
