About Tyler

Hello! My name is Tyler and I’ve been DMing for about 7 years, including a very brief experiment with live-streamed games. Dnd folds very neatly into my performance resume. I have my own, extremely involved private campaigns, and have run programs for the Urban Community Schools student DnD club, DnD workshops at Imposters Theater, and have acted as a cast member for Improvised Fairytale, and other fantasy-adjacent shows. I produce and perform with Worldbuilder- a touring Improvised Play that will be performing at the Detroit Improv Festival and the Nestival this year. We just completed a two-year residency at Imposters Theater. I also produce and perform in CHAOTIC, Cleveland’s most fantastic Improvised Dungeons and Dragons Adventure Show. We’re in our second season and have a just begun a residency at the Grog Shop. Beyond Dungeons and Dragons, I spent several years fixated on Warhammer 40k, deeply love Rangers of Shadow Deep, have always wanted to play CoC, and have recently gotten into City of Mist. I have been fortunate to be able to tie my passions into my work, and find myself surrounded by people with complimentary pursuits. I am extremely happy to have become my community’s “DnD Guy”.

I became a GM because

I had 20 ideas for campaigns that didn’t exist, and I’ve always loved building things.

When I'm not running games I'm...

an Ensemble Actor and Producer of an Improvised DnD Comedy Show in Cleveland! I’m in other shows but who cares! We’re here for DnD! We have a party of adventurers go on an improvised quest every night, and, as the DM, I keep it all together!

How Tyler runs games

The story begins with you. I can build a world, and fill it with a million little adventures, and have my quirky/funny/cool ensemble of NPCs ready to go, but I have no idea what you’re going to do, and that’s where we find the game. Our stories have high stakes, because we are only challenging what your heroes care about. That’s what a protagonist is! The world will always be bigger than what we can touch, but your place in it is all that matters. If there’s a Good Dragon you decide to kill, MAYBE you’re a dragon-killing-psycho, or MAYBE dragon blood is the last ingredient you need for your brother’s medicine, or MAYBE your wandering Ranger loves all livings things but their people need a new place to live, and gosh this valley would be perfect if there wasn’t an acid-breathing monster here. I want to see what you do. I want to build a story around the hard decisions your character makes. The best roleplay happens in combat and is easier when we have something to talk about. Combat is more fun with a third objective- instead of just “stay alive” and “kill them”. Lord of the Rings has all these amazing wizard-angels and murder-elves but the best character spends all three books just being a really good friend. Yes, we’re being attacked by the Circus Cult and they’re not running this time, so we gotta kill them, BUT we need to complete the ritual to cure the priest’s Lycanthropy so that he can marry us! Your choices are all that matters! The game begins and ends with you.

My games focus on...

Living Worlds! The world is happening. You’re part of it. I grew up enjoyed the Fallout: New Vegas, LotR, and a Series of Unfortunate Events- these storied, textured, dangerous, living settings felt like places where adventures could happen.

Party-driven stories (with help!)

I think min/maxing...

is hilarious! So you made the "ultimate archer assassin"- that's great- I want you to be good at things! "Shooting good" is a skill that every party benefits from. BUT... Our ship is sinking! The crops are dying! The statue needs an answer to his riddle! Shoot it? (that might work)
