About Beta

Hi! My name is Beta, I'm a transgender man, and I've been a Dungeon Master for about 8 years! It's one of my biggest passions, and I love running games and telling stories! I'm also a professional writer and artist, so i definitely lean more into the roleplaying side of TTRPGs! As stated, I have a lot of experience DMing, and I especially have a long history of DMing games with lots of players or otherwise big parties, alongside longterming DMing for multiple games. My longest running group was 7 years, with 6 players in the party. I am also experienced with very small groups as well, running games for groups as small as 2, or even 1. I typically run my games on Discord; however I can use both DND Beyond and Roll20 if that's what's preferred.

I became a GM because

my absolute favorite thing in the world is telling stories! I love to craft and tell an engaging story, and almost nothing is more fulfilling than see the emotions and reactions they inspire in people. When GMing, I get to custom fit stories to people, and see their reactions in real time!

How Beta runs games

I definitely lean towards fantasy, both high and low! I also quite enjoy urban fantasy, and have the most experience with urban and high fantasy. My games run towards the epic scale in high fantasy, and I often have themes featuring around (fantastical) religion, revolutions/politics, and moral choices. I also try to keep my campaigns character focused, especially backstories, and lower level when it comes to games with levelling systems like D&Ds. Again, while I can run crunchier or more mechanic focused campaigns, I do tend to focus on story telling and elite vibes. My combat also often has a secondary focus beyond just killing all enemies, with players needing to do things like run away or protect civilians or retrieve an item an enemy is trying to destroy. I encourage roleplay, especially roleplay between players, and I incorporate as much of a character's background and story as I can, often crafting encounters or whole story beats with specific characters in mind. Lastly, I absolutely adore worldbuilding and lore, to the point that I've built my own homebrew D&D world and lore that I run my personal games in (though, of course, if any of you are interesting in playing or seeing it, I'd be more than happy to share!). Expect rich worlds with ancient lore and complex societies and cultures!

Beta's ideal table

My ideal table has 2-5 players in it! I prioritize role-play and storytelling in my games, and as such players who devote hours to making character Pinterest boards and have 65 page backstories are absolutely right up my alley! I try to keep the vibe at my table light-hearted but on track, we joke and laugh but we take the story and what happens in it seriously and genuinely, no crack or joke characters!

I love it when a player

invests time in who their character is outside of a session, and is clearly extremely passionate and interested in their character's arc, and in helping other players achieve their own character arc!

My table is not the place for...

extremely crunchy rule and combat focused gameplay! As someone who has extensive experience in Dungeons and Dragons, I'm more than capable of running combat and know the rules well; however, my priority is always what the most interesting thing for the plot and character's arcs would be.
