About Andrew

Northern Irish guy with 7 years of D&D 5e DMing experience. I have been engaging with D&D since my older brother got me into Baldur's Gate 1 waaay before I was old enough to understand the mechanics (I'm up to speed now, mind you). Experience of 3.5e and 4e, but not DMing for those systems at present. I'm a London resident with a career in museums & heritage that factors into my world building now and again. Public speaker & tour guide, with prior experience working in theatre. Beyond all that I'm just a pretty informal guy who likes to grab a drink; meet new people; and hyperfixate on my hobbies! Get in touch if you are keen on long-form, dramatic narratives and creating meaningful character stories in a D&D setting.

I became a GM because

I have been reading and playing D&D content since I was 10 and got lucky on finding some work colleagues back in 2018 who wanted to play. I caught up fast with 5e (made a few things up at initially) and immediately got addicted to sitting behind the screen.

How Andrew runs games

My roleplay style trends towards drama; historical fiction; and classic fantasy. I would pitch the tone of my campaigns as "mid-magic". Cinematic narration and setting tone strive to create a sense that our heroes are at the centre of the next great fantasy series. A key part of my narratives is focusing on the interactions between the party members and key NPCs that allow for emotion; psychology; and personal drive to be central to how the plot progresses. I write narratives that react to character backgrounds & in-game dynamics. The characters are the focus in my campaigns - you are the heroes, so you won't expect (or need) Elminster & Aragorn to drop in to save you from the plot. Powerbuilding is not necessary to enjoy my campaigns: teamwork is. I admit there is a bit of player character blood on my hands, but you know... just a modest amount..! Combat tends to be varied, with secondary objectives; terrain challenges; and narrative flourishes ensuring that characters who are not built with combat as a priority are still key players.

My games focus on...

Long-form story telling with a narrative that builds gradually and in reaction to the decisions made by the players throughout. Varied, dramatic combats; character growth; tricky lore-friendly conflicts.

Rules are...

Something that I make it my job to understand and lead on for the table. I try not to put too much pressure on my players to know what's up - if you're not sure, I'll run you through. If we're both unsure, we can figure out what works for us.
