About Tedd Johnson

My name is Tedd and I have been playing games since I knew that “playing” and “games” were concepts that could be paired up. I like exploring and understanding the basic building blocks of what makes games fun to play and in that quest I have played, run, or created games of all types for over 30 years. Notably I’ve run multiple long haul Tabletop RPGS and crafted and ran my own Escape Room operating until the pandemic made that impossible.

How Tedd Johnson runs games

Gameplay-wise: I like to bring an immersive attention to detail to all the games that I run. whether that be through in-world riddles, to traps, to puzzle-props. I like to leave my players with memorable moments each session that they are excited to share with even the non-games in their lives. I like to focus on “Role-Playing” where the characters are encouraged to deepen their understanding of the experiences, memories, emotions and feelings they want to access through the game rather than the “Roll Playing” of trying to figure out how to get the best numbers on the dice. Rules-wise: I like to start each system from a position of playing “Rules as written” and then slowly explore which rules get in the way of the table having the most fun. If there is a situation where a rule is causing an imbalance in the game that is significant enough to get in the way of everyone’s enjoyment then I like to discuss with the group what the smallest and best way to adjust that rule so that it isn’t annoying to play around or play with. As far as group and game management is concerned I think that making sure that everyone feels comfortable having fun is the basis for good gameplay. This means that if conflict arises I start from a position of assuming the best in everyone but being direct about what changes would make the game better for everyone, if problematic behavior continues to be an issue I have no reservations supporting players who may not be comfortable representing themselves.
