About Kevin

My first ever character was a dwarf totem barbarian who would take his pants off for fights because I did not understand unarmored defense.....and my barbarian really loved to fight, but that isn't the point. I do not take most things very seriously and believe that dnd should be the same. I love the fun, lighthearted escape from reality that sitting across the virtual table provides. Really my goals are to have a few good laughs, and maybe roll some death saves? Must have: Dnd beyond with the Beyond20 chrome extension Roll20 Discord

I became a GM because

I super love sharing this game I love, and hopefully providing people a good time with some good ole fashion escapism.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Three words that my players would describe me are probably goofy, accepting, and compassionate.

When I'm not running games I'm...

I'm a father of two wonderful teens. I am a husband to a wonderful powerful woman. I'm probably watching college football, or working on my 1969 VW Bug (nice).

How Kevin runs games

I enjoy a more light hearted setting. I do also love fights that are meaningful and can sometimes get rather dangerous. Be prepared to lose some hp and you might have to roll death saves. I do not throw hard fights without buildup and several warnings. I do like to use elements of players backstories where I can. I do like "rule of cool" however, I do not allow for obviously crazy behavior. Murder hobos, and evil player characters will be dealt with swiftly. I do not allow PVP, and edgelords will have a hard time fitting in the themes and vibes of my campaigns. We are all here to tell a story, if you only want to do your own thing, write a book.

I deal with rules issues by...

I deal with rules issues by typically listening to people at the table, quickly reading the book if I can. At some point I will have to make a ruling at the table. I will then do more research after the session and if its a long running session I will amend and advise everyone how it will be ruled.

I once ran a session...

I once ran a session where I gave the plot hook several weeks before the game. Everyone seemed excited, no one said anything that wasn't positive. When the game started, I gave the plot hook and every character just said "No, we decided we want to go do a different quest." Which is what we did.

Rules are...

Rules are important. They are meant to be understood so that we all have a shared understanding on how this world works. However, rules are meant to be bent. I don't want to bog the table down with rules, but also I do tend to stick as close to the rules as possible.

Kevin's ideal table

Players will fit well at my table if they are interested in bringing their role playing skills. I love role playing, but also once initiative is rolled, my monster will try to kill you. I don't usually pull punches but also feel my table out before putting out challenging encounters in front of them. Not every party likes to feel like their character is at risk, which is fine. I tend to not do well with rules lawyers. If you're willing to go with the flow and trust I really do have your best interests in mind, we will have a super great time.

I love it when a player

I love it when a player takes notes. When players bring up something that happened last session, that means the world to me. Also, I love it when players let me know when they have had a good time. I really do appreciate that.

I think metagaming...

Metagaming is inevitable. We all do it. However, looking up stat blocks, reading ahead in modules, or looking to the internet for help while at the table is a hard pass at my table.

My perfect party mix is

My perfect party mix is goofballs who get into the story and at least one or two people who can help keep the story moving.
