About loom
i go by loom (he/him), and i’m a game dev and character designer by trade! i’ve been running tabletop games for a long time, mostly with friends with a few public, paid/bartered oneshots at events and such; i love the planning, and i especially love seeing players’ creativity with their characters. (new players are beloved by me for this reason!) i have previous professional experience in the trpg industry, and while it has soured me on a lot of the Branding, i’m more dedicated than ever to running games where folks feel welcome.

I became a GM because
my beloved players always think it’s a good idea, and they only want to psychologically damage me Sometimes. really, i always end up the GM because no one else wants to do it. :,) but i’m glad for it, because i’ve come to really love the process. they got me!!
My favorite shows/movies are
eclectic. back to back this week, i’ve watched a movie to show a friend how great it is. those two movies were “chainsaw man: reze arc” and “rosencrantz & guildenstern are dead (1990).” unfortunately, my top video games are even wilder. i have so many Games Opinions.
How loom runs games
i am a hobbyist DM with a flair for the dramatic! i love rules-light systems that force dynamic character growth and development, but i’ll eagerly run the more popular fifth edition with the right party. my priority is facilitating the story each player really wants to tell — but if you don’t know, or you’d rather go in blind, that’s cool too! i’m not an expert GM, but i’ll meet you where you’re at and run from there. i think random chance is a big part of the fun of ttrpgs, so i’d never do away with it entirely — that said, i love rule of cool and encourage it. my table rule, consistently, is “i’ll let you attempt basically anything — especially if it’s funny.” finally: i am a queer, trans, disabled adult man. my table will always be safe for BIMPOC, queer people, sex workers, disabled people, and players of all experience levels. if i do mess up in a way that jeopardizes that safety, i’m always open to player feedback and will take it with dignity.

I once ran a session...
…of curse of strahd, where i was attempting to be suitably vague and unsettling by hinting to them that ismark looked “sick” and “paranoid” and “drawn.” they decided — collectively, almost all at the same time — that he was clearly just having a difficult pregnancy. it’s possible i yes-and TOO much.
Rules are...
most easily taken from the magnificent Thirsty Sword Lesbians: NO FASCISTS OR BIGOTS ALLOWED …is the big one. you’ll find me to be lax with written rules — this is partly that i have an imperfect memory, and partly that i prioritize a fun story over rules as written.
When it comes to voices
i only have a few, but i get into them. ESPECIALLY if my players are trying out voices. trust me, you all sound way cooler than me!!

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
cheeky queer jokes, contrived drama but in a sincere way, and listening to me yap A LOT,
I love it when a player
says, “okay, this might be a really stupid idea and you don’t have to let me do it, but…”
My table is not the place for...
- fascists - TERFs/SWERFs - children - anyone in a rush - AI generated "art" or writing - folks who can’t be mature about relationships or sex in fantasy; if you don’t have good boundaries about that stuff, we won’t be a good match.
