About Joseph Hughes
Dungeon Joe is a dad from Florida, USA. He teaches music to little kids, and loves going to work every day. He is passionate about dogs, music, sports, and RPGs. He's has been GMing for 10 years, and also loves to play in other people's games. In the last two years he's fallen head-over-heels for the OSR style of play. Dungeon Joe has had the good fortune to play with so many different people- and one of the things he's learned is that everyone brings something different to TTRPGs, and everyone experiences gaming in their own way. Because he believes strongly in this diversity of fun, everyone is welcome at my table, as long as they bring passion and respect.

How Joseph Hughes runs games
Games are the most fun when players are empowered to make decisions that matter. Dungeon Joe wants to to set up situations in which the consequences of choices are dramatic. There is no narrative arc to his campaigns except those that the players create themselves. Dungeon Joe fills the role of the facilitator, and players tell the story. He loves playing NPCs, and is excellent at role-playing dialog with internal consistency and fidelity. He's a great improviser, and loves to "play to find out." Dungeon Joe roots for the players to win, but finds games most thrilling when things go wrong. He is intensely fair. His favorite settings are mega-dungeons. The combination of exploration, danger, and strategy checks all his boxes. Creating a world in which everything is a powder keg and giving the players a match is so much fun. Dungeon Joe is friendly and likes to meet people online- but when the game starts, he keeps the focus in the world in which his table is playing.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...
Steven Spielberg.
I prep by
Meticulously setting up exploding barrels with short fuses everywhere, then giving the players a box of matches.
Joseph Hughes's ideal table
My ideal table would have players who are excited to play. They bravely improvise and create fun characters. Players at my ideal table invest in the fun of the other people at the table. They wouldn't avoid always hope for the best possible outcome for their characters. Failure is where the most drama and fun can be found.
