About Chef
Hello, My name is Wes. I'm a professional Dungeon Master. Most people around the internet just call me "Chef" https://chefsdungeon.com/ <---Website link! (More Info) My website adventure links will bring you back here, this website is just for additonal information all in one place. You should check it out though as it's super helpful for deciding if my adventure is a right fit for you or not. So a little bit about me: I'm a professional dungeon master who has been with Startplaying for about two years now. I really enjoy long campaigns over one-shots and like seeing strangers become friends over an adventure at my table. Other than being a professional dungeon master, I'm also a chef. I've been cooking for 13 years now. I started out as a dishwasher and made it my goal to become really good at it. I am also a huge advocate for workline breed dogs. I give some of my income to rescues when i can. About GMing: I started playing Dungeons & Dragons to try something different after years of being an MTG player. I found ttrpgs to be more fun than video games. Spending a lot of time creating characters and joining campaigns was something i looked forward to. Then someone gave me a chance to DM and the rest is history. The same group also showed me Startplaying and well, here i am. GMing for almost 2 years now and loving every second of it.

My favorite system of all Time is
D&D 5e - It's the system I first started on. Still my favorite system.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Fun, Creative, and Organized
When I'm not running games I'm...
Hanging out with the dogs, being a chef, playing video games, or programming websites and stuff.
How Chef runs games
I'm try to make my campaigns fun and creative, especially with modules, by adding puzzles and combat that has clues lying around. I put in hooks that sometimes are pointless side quests and sometimes lead to really big story arc(s) that could play out in the world with or without the party (where missing the side quest could lead to major events - and you might not know what caused the series of events to unfold). I really like to put on a campaign that is fun, unique (when a module), and very involved. To where you feel like your character has purpose not only in their storyline but also as a member of the party.

I deal with rules issues by...
Having proper and clear documents that address the rules and issues that have arisen with the rules. I like to run my games (RAW) rules as written with some Rule of Cool in the mix. I don't like RAI, and when it does come up, I go based on RAW, not RAI, and refer to the exact text of the rules.
My games focus on...
a mix of roleplaying, combat, and exploration. I really try to figure out what my party wants and how they play as a group and lean into that. Like most game masters i'd love to curate this really detailed and special story, but sometimes a group is more into combat with less roleplay.
When it comes to voices
I'm not the best. But I do try. I'm not a professional voice actor or have fancy mics with voice mods. But I'm also not trying to convince anyone I'm that talented in voices.
Chef's ideal table
I encourage all player experience levels. From a first time player to an experienced player who's been around since the early days of D&D. I'd suggest newer players DO check that the campaign is beginner friendly first, or message me to make sure it'll fit what they're looking for. As for at the table experience, I like players who want to have fun. Work as a team. And have some sort of backstory. It doesn't have to be super extensive but it's your character! I will always include your story into the campaign in some way. Even if its subtle hints that your wanted in waterdeep to lure the party into your story. Or an old friend crosses you with bad news. You know modules are designed a certain way and homebrew is pretty well planned out for a DM's vision.... but the players create the story and the DM funnels all this information into his existing campaign to create a unique story to that party rather than the same module/homebrew story on repeat (that gets rail-roaded) cause I like dms who let me feel involved. So i want you too feel involved!

I think it's a red flag when players...
Argue over things constantly. It's not fun for the rest of the group when a player wants to argue about rules, boundaries, or other things constantly at a paid game. It's just not fair to them to waste time on the same subject over and over, and I try to ask players who argue excessively to leave.
I think metagaming...
Is a hard topic. We all read books, watch videos, etc. The way i beat metagaming is by changing things up for official modules and reminding players that there is a difference between what they know and what the character knows. If player #1 hears a mysterious voice... the party didn't hear that.
I think min/maxing...
is not really as fun as everyone thinks. It really creates a spotlight issue sometimes, where a player is just trying to be the best in the room. And TTRPGs are not about who has the best build. It's all about having fun at the table.
