I’m a newer DM but have logged years as a player. That experience fuels how I run the game. I know what it feels like to sit at the table, and I use that perspective to create games that are fun, fair, and memorable. I see myself as a guide more than a referee. My role is to shepherd players through the world, set up the obstacles, and then step back so their choices and creativity shape the outcome. I want players to feel that their decisions matter, that the world reacts to them, and that every session leaves them excited for the next. I love Play-by-Post. It’s like always having a game running in the background where quiet moments of story and action unfold throughout the day. The pace gives me time to paint a vivid picture and players time to think deeply about how their hero would act, speak, and grow. At our table you can expect: Challenging, tactical encounters where terrain, monster intelligence, and player choices matter. A living story that responds to your actions. Respect for player comfort: clear boundaries and a focus on collaborative fun. Room for creativity: clever ideas and smart play are always rewarded. How John runs games
I run a combat-driven, tactical game with story at its core. Each battle pushes the narrative forward and reveals more of the hero you'll become. Fights will be strategic and demanding. Monsters act according to their wisdom, intelligence, and general deviousness. They will play to their strengths and have an according will to live and win. Don't expect targets. Expect rewarding battles that are fair and fun, but not foregone conclusions. Cover, positioning, and tactics are critical. Charging into ranged fire across open ground is rarely the best option, especially at low levels where survival is fragile. My goal is to create challenging and rewarding encounters that push your characters to grow into the heroes you envision. I am not playing against you. I am building the world (its dangers and its spoils) to give your hero a chance at glory. Roleplay is welcome and encouraged. It's how you turn a sheet of numbers and a handful of dice into a character we all care about. So, while the focus is on engaging combat rather than theater, there will be ample opportunity to develop your hero and their place in the party between and even IN battles. Ultimately, it is YOUR choices, tactics, and teamwork that will shape the world and the tale we create together.
