About Devin

Hi I'm Devin and I've been playing tabletop RPGs for a few years and I love both combat and role play equally. I enjoy being at a table where tactical moments matter just as much as character choices and story-driven decisions. For me, the best games are the ones where everyone gets chances to shine in and out of combat.

I became a GM because

I became a GM because I love the game and wanted to share that excitement with others. Helping players tell memorable stories is one of the most rewarding parts of the hobby.

My favorite shows/movies are

I'm a big anime fan and love drawing inspiration from different world and power settings that they showcase. I also love scary movies so lookout for elements of horror in my games, especially around Halloween!

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Collaborative, flexible, and rewarding.

How Devin runs games

As a newer DM, I prefer not to run overly crunchy, rules-heavy gameplay. I enjoy a bit of structure rather than full sandbox chaos, with some prep so the game feels smooth and intentional. I strongly encourage flavor, roleplay, and character expression at my table. My goal is always to tell a great story with my table members, not at them. Players shape the world through their choices, and I focus on building a collaborative narrative where everyone feels involved and invested. In my experience this best leads to fun moments for every player at the end of each and every session.

I deal with rules issues by making the best ruling I can in the moment to keep the game moving. If there's uncertainty, we'll check the official rule after the session and use that going forward. Consistency and fun are what's important to me.

My favorite trope is...

My favorite trope is morally complex villains. I enjoy antagonists whose motivations make sense and whose pain or ideals are understandable. They aren't evil for the sake of being evil; they've simply chosen harmful methods, become consumed by their cause, or lost sight of who they wanted to be.

Rules are...

Rules are important, but memorable moments and good storytelling will always come first. If you can justify a roll I won't let the rules deny it outright.

Devin's ideal table

Story-driven, collaborative, and character-focused. I love meaningful choices, immersive worlds, creative problem-solving, and morally complex villains. Roleplay, exploration, and combat all matter. Best fit for players who engage with the story, support the party, and enjoy teamwork.

I love it when a player

I love it when players flavor their abilities and bring their characters to life. Describe your attacks, spells, and features! Roleplay doesn't stop when initiative starts—it's part of every roll, every fight, and every choice.

I think it's a red flag when players forget that D&D is a shared story. Characters can disagree and make mistakes, but the goal should always be creating memorable moments together, not stealing the spotlight or working against the table.

My table is not the place for...

My table is not the place for players who want to "win" D&D, constantly compete with the party, or treat the game as DM vs. players. We're here to tell a great story together.
