About Jared - Add +4 Charisma

Hello! I've been a GM for a little over a year now and have really enjoyed it. Now, I'm ready to continue developing my talents with new players and stories! I love a good story and willl do my best to keep you on your toes as we explore haunted manors, discover hidden riches, and fend off unholy terrors, while also maintaining a safe and fun gameplay table for everyone. I am LGBTQ+ and like to keep my table friendly for all while explaining new rules and game concepts as simply as possible. All gameplay resources will be shared online via Demiplane, including a character builder and full sourcebook for players to explore on their own between sessions. You'll gain access to our group Discord and in-game, expect atmospheric sound effects, imagery, and some customized music to get everyone immersed in our game world. Come join the party and have a good time!

I got started GMing...

for DnD about 2 years ago. I was with a group playing through Discord when suddenly one day, our new DM vanished after only playing two sessions with us. Rather than give up, we all decided to continue playing and I simply took over the mantle of DM. That's one way to get your feet wet!

My favorite shows/movies are

Anything horror. Shows like 'Penny Dreadful', 'Stranger Things', and 'Carnival Row' are great sources of inspiration for the games I like to host, so I use them for inspiration when I can! I also enjoy drawing from shows like 'Dimension 20' and 'Critical Role' for story and character concepts.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

creative, breezy, and queer (I try to include as much queer content and NPCs in my games as my players will allow!) I usually go by 'the rule of cool' for my players. I don't mind players derailing the story or the game if it makes sense in the moment and makes for good storytelling!

How Jared - Add +4 Charisma runs games

We're here to have fun, not be rules lawyers! Tables are designed to be friendly and interactive with players without having to worry about exact rulings or flipping through long winded sourcebook explanations. If it makes for good storytelling and it fits into the realm of possibility, I'll say 'Yes, absolutely!' 99% of the time (be aware, however, that there are no rocket launchers yet invented in Newfaire, so leave them in your imaginations!). Expect (terrible) voice acting, lots of NPCs, and though it is a theater of the mind style game, I do try to include images and slides detailing environments and creatures via our shared Discord channel if it helps! I have been a teacher for the last 10 years and pride myself on being a patient and creative GM when it comes to teaching the game to new players. Bring your imagination and come play with us!

My games focus on...

spotlighting players. I like EVERYONE to feel like they're a part of the bigger story, so if you have a chance to find a clue, stop a rampaging monster, or uncover a dark secret, I'm gonna give it to you. I want all players to feel equally important to the party!

Rules are...

as written, unless storytelling-wise they can be 'bent' to fit the moment. I try to play rule of cool as far as the game allows: if you tell me you want to do something that makes for good storytelling, I'll typically allow it even if it's not strictly 'by the book!'

When it comes to voices

I do 'em all! Are they good?...no, but I always include NPC artwork and images of scenery and items to help build the immersion of the story. I do my best with every NPC to make them as memorable as possible!

Jared - Add +4 Charisma's ideal table

The general vibe of the table is carefree and goofy with an emphasis on collaborative storytelling. Yes, I will narrate the general plot and consequences/successes of the dice, but I also enjoy hearing players tell me how an action occurs or how a failure impacts the table. Often times, I'll hand the choices and decisions over to the players to continue the story without my direct input. This makes for a more fun experience and allows everyone to craft the story as we play!

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

If you're into improv, you're going to love my table. I really enjoy putting players in silly, compromising, or uncomfortable circumstances with NPCs just to make them squirm and see how they'll get out of a bad situation. It adds some much needed levity and humor to our horror games!

I love it when a player

turns the game on their head and does something neither myself nor the other players would ever expect. I've had tables with player betrayals, noble sacrifices, and even attempted murders against PCs. It keeps me on my toes and gives all players the ability to craft the narrative along with me!

My table is not the place for...

rules lawyers. I've had players before that would step all over other players' and their actions simply because what they wanted to do wasn't explicitly 'rules as written', but as I have explained to my tables, the ultimate decision rests with me. We're all just here to have fun!
