About Chris Pyak

I will make sure that you have a great time playing Dungeons & Dragons. Together we will create an wonderful world and experience great adventures. I run beginner friendly campaigns that allow you to pick up the rules as you play along. We will play Dungeons & Dragons by the rules - with stress on the very FIRST RULE: Fun comes first! - If you have the chance to do something cool, but it would break the rule: Then the rule will break. I am here for you - not the rulebook. ;) I enjoy new discoveries, adventures and a good laugh. Diversity in all it's forms makes our lives richer and more interesting. As a European writer and coach I have lived in seven different countries within Europe. Originally from Düsseldorf in Germany, I now live in Santander, Spain. I speak several languages, but my games are mostly in English. (If you want me to run a game for your friends & family in a different language: Please reach out.) I offer D&D 5E games. (Dungeons & Dragons) We play on DnDBeyond/AboveVTT - or if you live near Santander, Spain: Live. Languages in which I can host games: - English (fluent) - German (native speaker) - Spanish (A2) - Estonian (A2)

My favorite books are

Douglas Adams "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", everything from Terry Pratchett and currently Martha Wells "The Murderbot Diaries".

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Oh. My. God.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Writing science fiction and short stories. My wife describes my sense of humour as "mostly funny".

How Chris Pyak runs games

I play and GM for joy. My number one goal is for all of us to have a great time together. I enjoy roleplay and I adapt the typical campaigns (like "Lost Mines of Phandelver") to offer weird & fun characters. My sense of humor is slightly weird, ironic, childish - but never hurtful. Expect a good mix of roleplaying, secret messages (that you can choose to reveal to your friends or keep to yourself) and exciting fights and challenges. I am a relative new GM, but have run several campaigns now. That's why I offer to entertain you for a very cheap price - for now. :) If you are a new player and want to test out if Dungeons & Dragons is a hobby that you would enjoy: I am the right Game Master for you. :)

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

Steven Spielberg in the '80s and '90s. (Think Indiana Jones, Back to the Future etc.)

I once ran a session...

...that actually played out exactly as I had prepared. Has never happened again since. :) One thing I love about my players is that they embrace the world that we create. Someone makes a random joke - and we are off to a completely new adventure of their own making. And it's always AWESOME. :)

Rules are...

...there to improve the fun. (30 Rock quote). My ambition is to create a space where you can have a great time and truly enjoy yourselves. Sometimes rules get in the way of a really amazing thing that you are trying to do - and in that case it's always you that I choose. And not the rule.

Chris Pyak's ideal table

If you love movies from the 80's like Indiana Jones, Back to the future or Lethal Weapon: Than you will most likely enjoy playing with me too. My players are kind, cooperative and open-minded. They embrace new opportunities - and they value a good story, a funny joke and a really cool fight over consistency or mechanical rules. We laugh at our tables. A lot. :) Also: Be prepared for lot of 80's / 90's music & film quotes as well as "Dad jokes" from your GM (That's me, Chris Pyak.) :)
