About Jim Ritter

I'm a dad and high school Creative Writing and Language Arts teacher based in Baltimore, MD. I've been playing TTRPGs for 10 years and GMing for six years. As a teacher, I pride myself in my communication and interpersonal skills and I love the opportunity to teach new players how our games work. Over my career as a teacher, camp counselor, and adjunct professor, I have worked with kids from first grade to undergrad and I have led games for children as young as four.* I prioritize fun over 'rules-lawyering' and consider a session successful when the players leave smiling. There's nothing I enjoy more than seeing my players challenge my expectations and come through with creative solutions. *I can happily run games using the kid-friendly system "No Thank You, Evil!" by request. Unfortunately, this system isn't listed on Start Playing, so you have to let me know if you're interested in that.

How Jim Ritter runs games

With a background in Improv, I thoroughly enjoy theater of the mind & roleplay. Left to my own devices, I tend to lean into story over combat, but that is flexible. My specialty is with new and first-time players who are looking for a welcoming introduction to the game and I like to encourage players to help build the world and story along with me. I make an active effort to be as inclusive as possible, using Lines & Veils to make sure that my games are fun and safe environments for everyone. I think I'd be a good fit for you if you're looking for someone with a love of storytelling and humor.
