About Catherine
My name is Catherine, and I am a big fan of TTRPGs as both a player and a GM! I'm especially a fan of Pathfinder, but also have experience with D&D and Starfinder, and hope to have more experience with Basic Roleplaying, GURPS, and Daggerheart in the future! As a GM, I pride myself on facilitating a fully collaborative storytelling circle, and allowing players to feel actualized in their play; if you like improv, you will likely like my GM style!

I got started GMing...
7 years ago, when my forever-GM friend asked me to lead a one-shot for our group while he was sick. I got far too excited with preparation for it, especially for a one-shot, but the love for GMing has stuck with me since!
How Catherine runs games
My greatest love in RPGs is the possibility of telling stories, and in that vein I am definitely a roleplay-forward GM and player. Combat is plenty fun, but I view it as only one facet of an overall narrative. However, I also prefer systems with more rules rather than fewer. While these systems can become overly "crunchy" if not used well, in my experience having a wide range of rules and subsystems allow the GM and the players to let their imagination run wild while still being respected from within the system. On a broad level, I have a strong preference for "sandbox" style campaigns; if I wanted to tell a linear narrative, I would write a book. I believe roleplaying does best when the players are given enough to find their footing but feel as though they can do anything, anywhere.

Rules are...
Rules are a helpful way to make sure that everyone at the table can have their ideas for the story respected from within the system, but are not sacred and can be changed if they prevent telling an engaging and fun story at the table.
