About Captain Redbeard
Hey all! My name is Chance, but I go by Captain online (call me either). I am a gamer, streamer, and general big nerd. I am a big fan of a couple different TTRPGs but DnD 5e is my Favorite (boring I know haha). I've been running games for a few years now. I enjoy to homebrew my own worlds and love helping beginners. I am all out of friends to convince to play with me, so I am expanding my horizons. My vibe of DMing is definitely focused on enjoyment of the players and the rule of cool!

I got started GMing...
because my buddy was complaining about being the "Forever GM". I offered to run a couple games and never looked back!
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Entertaining, Creative, and Fair.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Streaming, playing games casually, and spending time with my wife.
How Captain Redbeard runs games
I am a huge fan of roleplay opportunities! I do sprinkle in combat in each session just to keep the game interesting. Also a big fan of overarching plot in worlds of my own creation. I typically run a one-shot style session first that appeals to a majority of players, then redesign the rest of my plans based on the information I gather. I also am a firm believer that not every encounter is meant to be combat. Players should creatively approach each and every situation. I love the stories that can unfold and the ramifications it has on the development of the world. I am very patient and accepting of all kinds of players, but i typically disallow "edgy loner" and "murder goblin" types of players, as they can greatly impact the enjoyment of the other players at the table. If everyone is down to play those kinds of characters though, then I do allow it. I primarily DM via Theater of the Mind, but am also practicing with Roll20 and D&D Beyond to expand the experience I can offer.

My games focus on...
sweeping sandbox worlds of my own design. I love to create large worlds and plots within them. However, it feels like the player's actions have more influence on the world than I do, in the best way.
Rules are...
guidelines at best. They make a nice framework, but if they are ruining the fun, why keep them?
When it comes to voices
I rarely do them. I will try from time to time, but the strain my voice quickly. Sorry Folks!
Captain Redbeard's ideal table
I love Watching my players interact with the worlds I have created. My ideal players will be cheerful and collaborative, and maybe a little stupid (aren't we all?). The will be respectful to everyone, and the time they have put into this game. They also won't be afraid to give me feedback so I can give them the best game possible!

I am for a vibe that's...
lighter hearted and welcoming, while also dipping my toes into anything ranging from sad to spooky.
I love it when a player
Enjoys the stories I craft and has fun with their party. Bonus points if they do anything funny or wacky.
My table is not the place for...
Murder Goblins and edgy loners. I want my players to collaborate and work together. If everyone wants to be a crazed killer then I may change my tune...
