About Buccaneer

Hey there, I’m Buccaneer! I run cinematic, character-driven D&D where player choice actually matters. My tables focus on immersive storytelling, meaningful character arcs, and flexible rulings that serve the story rather than fight it. I bring years of tabletop experience to the table, including serving as a Dungeon Master in a large West Marches campaign alongside 11 other DMs, collaborating on shared lore, continuity, and a persistent world shaped permanently by player decisions. That experience taught me how to balance freedom with structure, creativity with consistency, and ambition with payoff. With thousands of pages of homebrew content, custom NPCs, and tailored mechanics, I adapt official modules into personalized homebrewed adventures built around your character’s goals. Whether that means becoming a legendary hero, an evil villan that works with the BBEG, building a stronghold, forging alliances, or walking a morally gray path. To bring sessions to life, I use Syrinscape’s HD soundscapes and music, creating cinematic moments that pull you into the world and keep immersion high. Whether you’re brand new to D&D or a veteran looking for a table that respects your ideas, my goal is simple: To make every session feel memorable, meaningful, and worth showing up excited for.

I became a GM because

I became a GM after a rough first D&D experience showed me how bad tables can ruin great stories. I wanted to run games where players feel respected, empowered, and excited to show up, not talked over, railroaded, or shut down.

My favorite books are

Jurassic Park and The Lost World. The novels are darker, more grounded, and genuinely unsettling. They took something wondrous and made it feel real and dangerous to me. That balance of awe and horror heavily influences how I build tension and stakes in my games.

My favorite shows/movies are

Jurassic Park and The Lost World. Beyond the dinosaurs, their tension, atmosphere, and creeping horror left a lasting impression on me. I love stories that feel immersive, dangerous, and alive. Where wonder and fear can exist side by side.

How Buccaneer runs games

At my table, storytelling takes center stage. I focus on rich roleplay, deep character development, and vivid scene descriptions, bringing NPCs to life with distinct personalities and voices (within reason). Combat is meaningful, narrative-driven, and balanced with exploration and roleplay, not just random encounters for their own sake. I embrace the Rule of Cool. I know the rules well, and I bend them intentionally when doing so makes the story more exciting or immersive. Player creativity is encouraged, bold ideas are rewarded, and your character’s journey is never an afterthought. I specialize in weaving personal backstories and character ambitions directly into the main narrative, ensuring that what you care about in-game actually matters in the world.

I deal with rules issues by...

I make quick rulings to keep the game moving. If a rule isn’t clear in the moment, we use Rule of Cool and revisit it after the session or during a break, checking the rules together so future calls stay consistent.

I prep by

I prep by fully immersing myself in the world. I begin thinking like the factions, NPCs, and monsters and start pushing their goals naturally. From there, I balance encounters, craft key NPC voices, and tailor sessions to the party and campaign tone.

My games focus on...

My games focus on giving players a truly unique, tailored experience. No two tables are ever the same. The story, challenges, and world evolve around the specific characters at the table and the choices they make.

Buccaneer's ideal table

My table is focused, immersive, and player-driven. I put a lot of effort into preparation and storytelling, and I’m looking for players who meet that energy with engagement and initiative. I thrive with players who enjoy speaking up, roleplaying, and actively pursuing goals without needing to be dragged through the story. Attention matters, I expect players to be present, not distracted by other games or phones during sessions. Creativity and imagination are highly encouraged. Random chaos for its own sake isn’t. If you enjoy thoughtful choices, meaningful consequences, and taking the world seriously while still having fun, you’ll fit in well here.

I love it when a player

I love it when a player brings bold ideas and strong imagination to the table. Creative thinking that fits the world often makes me happy to bend the rules a little to reward great roleplay and clever solutions.

I think it's a red flag when players...

It’s a red flag when players don’t communicate. Issues with rulings, story direction, or other players should be talked through openly so the table stays respectful, collaborative, and enjoyable for everyone.

I think min/maxing...

I’m not a fan of heavy min/maxing. I prefer characters with room to grow, flaws to explore, and space for everyone to shine. Extreme optimization can overshadow other players and make meaningful challenge harder to balance.
