About Brian Castellano

Hello and welcome! I’m Brian, and I have been playing roleplaying games, with a focus on Dungeons and Dragons, for many years. I even participated in early playtests of what would eventually become D&D 5E. Due to life, the universe, and everything, I didn’t get to play as often as I would have liked. However, I did discover something new about the game thanks to sharing it with my now-adult sons and their friends: it’s amazing to watch people discover this game. Now I have an opportunity to share this game with others, possibly with you and your friends, or with new friends made around the table. I firmly believe that cooperative storytelling is at the heart of D&D, that it is more than hack, slash, and do the math. Whether you’re new to the game or an old hand, if you want to tell a story together, I can help.

How Brian Castellano runs games

As a player and as a DM/GM, I prefer a mix of roleplaying and combat, and the measure of both should be flexible depending on the needs of the players and the game. With a number of players, there will be sessions where it seems like a long fight, but there’s always room for characterization and roleplay even in those moments, and the Rule of Cool should apply. You can try anything, just roll the dice. I also think that failure can be as interesting as success, it all depends on how the players spin it. However, if the needs of the day is a quest for just the right set of armor, wandering the shops of a given town and interacting with the denizens of a given land, that is also a very good day. I like to tell a story, and try to have a loose over-arcing plan, but I know that sometimes the players have other ideas altogether, and I’m always game to see where that goes.
