About Chris

I am an experienced DM / GM that has loved tabletop RPG's all my life. It is my hope, if I were to be your DM / GM, that you will have a fun, meaningful, worthwhile experience that will deeply resonate with you. I do personally prefer DM-ing in person; for me, there is magic in the air gaming in person. But obviously, we are here to play virtually to better accommodate everyone's busy schedules, and that is perfectly fine! Also, I run a PG-13 game, so less HBO's Game of Thrones and more Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings. If you made it this far, thank you for your time and consideration! Take care, and well wishes to everyone that reads this.

I started running games because...

I used to have the attitude of a forever player. Then I watched Chris Perkins run D&D for the writers of Robot Chicken (by the way you can find that recorded play on YouTube.) I cannot tell you why, but there's something about it that made me realize that DM-ing is cool, and I'd rather do that.

My favorite shows/movies are

I'll stick to anime to make things easier. My personal top manga / anime of all time, in no particular order because things are always in flux: A.) Naoki Urasawa's Monster, B.) Berserk, C.) UFO Robo Grendizer, D.) Naruto

When I'm not running games I'm...

Watching anime or playing videogames. Probably.

How Chris runs games

I alluded this this a bit in the 'about' section, but I consider DM-ing an art form, and it is one I take very seriously. For me, narrative and character development are at the forefront of what is a cooperative storytelling experience. If I were forced to describe my GM style, it would be a cross between Chris Perkins and Matt Mercer. I often, though not 100% of the time, roleplay and perform character voices. Combat ranges from theater of the mind, to usage of battlemaps and miniatures.

My games focus on...

...immersion, creativity, and fun. I love immersing my players in the storytelling experience. Though for me personally, I find this easier to do at a live table than online. But online is where many live now, so c'est la vie.

Rules are...

...not sacrosanct. I believe in rulings, not rules. They're important, don't get me wrong; they provide a foundational framework to work off of. But one also has to work off the creativity of the players, and that sometimes involves making a ruling instead of following a rule.

When it comes to voices

...you do you. I tell people this ahead of time, but feel free to speak in the first-person, or the third-person. There is no right or wrong way to go about this. I myself utilize both, depending on the current circumstance.

Chris's ideal table

Friendly and respectful; be kind. And do understand that you are part of an ensemble cast, where there will be times the spotlight is on you. Other times, the spotlight is on a different player. There may be sessions where you won't shine, and sessions where you shine brightest. This is all part of the game. So be respectful of everyone when you are not the star, and be patient; your time will come.

I love it when a player

...if so fully immersed in the adventure, that it affects them on another level; spiritually, mentally, emotionally. Sometimes you listen to music that makes you feel, makes you think. I like to think that tabletop RPG's at their very best, do the same.
