About me

Bran Lavigne (they/any) is a queer, autistic game designer and GM. In just under 4 years in the TTRPG hobby he has participated in live-streamed Actual Plays, released a solo journaling RPG (A Day in the Death), with another (Fallen from Grace) on the way in 2024, and run a handful of games ranging from one-shots, to short-form campaigns, to a DnD 5e game that has been running for over 2 years! Outside of their day job and TTRPGs, Bran enjoys reading Shirley Jackson's works, watching professional wrestling, and playing Magic the Gathering. You can find Bran at @cha0tic_stupid on Twitter (add two more underscores between cha0tic and stupid on Instagram)!

GM Style

As a GM I love to run horror and horror-adjacent campaigns and one shots. I typically run low combat games, but when it comes up, I create battle maps and engaging encounters.

I have been in a long running game with Bran for the past two years and our Mondays together have been a consistent source of laughter, exploration, and creativity. Bran works hard to intimately weave our characters and their stories into the world in ways both visible and not that makes us desperate to play week after week. They always encourage our creativity, from both story telling and a gameplay perspective. When my character finally had his past unlocked to him, Bran allowed me to change my character's class around almost completely to represent this new awakening. Another big selling point for Bran is his ability to work across experience levels. We had a brand new player in this game and it has been such a joy getting to watch her learn and interact with the world we are all building—much due to Bran's ability to teach and lead a new player into the world of TTRPGs. Whether you are an experienced player looking to connect deeply with a story or a new player looking for their first step into this world of games, Bran is a perfect person to bring you in.

As a new D&D player Bran made me feel super comfortable and struck a good balance between letting me ask all the questions and kept the game moving along. As a new player that knew literally nothing before joining their table learning all the types of characters and dice math was intimidating. Bran gave me room to experiment and get creative while learning about the general rules and lore of D&D. I’m incredibly thankful for their patience and encouragement as I learned to play!

Bran is a really wonderful collaborator as a GM -- they create opportunities for you to make interesting choices and make whatever choice you make feel rewarding and exciting. In games with Bran, I feel a genuine invitation to lean into what my character would do and trust that Bran can be flexible and adapt so we can all tell a satisfying story together.

I've had Bran as a player and a collaborator when it comes to game design and for both opportunities, they were professional, kind, and focused. He has a knack for understanding themes and employing them in characters and encounters that are satisfying and hilarious (Shane and The Dream). I'm looking forward to be able to play in a game with them soon and will update with how that goes!

Bran empowers and encourages players to be true collaborators when it comes to building and playing a game. They set up a safe space that allows us to roleplay and explore characters while investing in the world they're weave for us. I've spent many hours outside of the game thinking about the puzzles, twists, and amazing imagery they've built for us. They're also a generous DM who often lets a player run wild (within reason) if the ideas are good for the story and fun of the game!
