About Raphael

My uncle taught me how to play RuneQuest when I was 8 years old, and I figured out the rest by reading his rulebooks of D&D edition 3.5 in his attic. Since then I've ran games filled with teenage murderhobos until I was able to play in a room full of sane people, who then trusted me to become their DM, which has now been going on since 2018. I've then explored running games online, and taught a group of new players how to play the game by running the Mines of Phandelver, which then evolved into their own personalized campaign, which has been running for over two years now. Personality-wise, think of me like a human marshmallow who giggles and likes to make funny voices. My profile picture is very accurate as you'll see when I turn on my camera during session 0.

Featured Prompts

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Creative: I do funny voices sometimes :) --------- Inclusive: I welcome player creativity in character concepts and do add a diverse cast of characters into my world-building. --------- Story/Character-driven: I love creating characters and stories. Literally, I can't stop.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Writing and making movies, reading a book, knitting, crocheting, setting up for a TTRPG session, snuggling with my cats, or bossing my husband around.

How Raphael runs games

Optimistic and light-hearted. I always like to put a dash of humor in everything I do, and love to role-play conversations with my players. I like to cooperate with my players to craft a story that is unique to them, and weave their character's backstory into the campaign.

I prep by

... listening to music, opening my lego chest mimic filled with dice, opening the website, creating colorful NPCs, and outlining the session's plot points.

When it comes to voices

I do voices. A lot. I can't help it. They just sprout out of me. Players are most welcome to create and develop a voice for their characters. As a performance director I am full of constructive criticism, so I'm happy to give advice :)

Raphael's ideal table

My table is one that likes to laugh and have fun. My goal is for my players to have the best possible time in this group hallucination. Anybody with a wholesome sense of humor and a curious mind for creative problem solving is a good addition to my table. I don't tolerate discrimination in any shape or form!

Featured Prompts

I love it when a player

...builds a relationship with the NPCs that populate the world and interact with the world at large. The more your character invests in the universe, the more the universe gives back. :)

I think it's a red flag when players...

...start insulting other players as their character. If you're into conflicts within the adventuring party, it needs to make narrative sense rather than a constant onslaught of mean remarks. You're a team, so act like one.

I think min/maxing...

Is a valid way to play the game, but it isn't one. As a story-focused DM, a perfect character is a boring one, and a flawed one is a trove of story ideas and progression opportunities. Min-maxers, you're welcome to join, but know what you're getting into is all. :)
