About Betsy

Hi there! I’m Betsy :) This is my sixth year as a D&D 5e GM. I love running games with a heroic action/adventure tone with room for comedy and character growth. (My games probably aren't for you if you're looking for traditional mega-dungeons or sandbox/open world games.) Pirates of the Caribbean and The Mummy (1999) are guiding inspirations for me: straight forward plots full of thrills and laughs. I generally run PG-13 rated games, but follow me for some 'Cozy' games coming soon.

I became a GM because

I love creating spaces for people to feel encouraged to let their inner child play pretend again.

My favorite shows/movies are

• The Lord of the Rings trilogy • The Mummy (1999) • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade • Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl • Rurouni Kenshin (2012) • Hero • Kung Fu Panda 2 • Mulan (1998) • Ocean's 11 • Sailor Moon (1990's)

How Betsy runs games

I describe new scenes with enough details to be immersive, but I keep it brief so that players have more time to play! No lore dumps here! I openly state what could happen before a risky roll is made because I don't want a player to feel like they were tricked. Player character death is never my priority, but it is always a possibility. Unless a game listing specifically says it uses Theater of the Mind, I typically use maps and music during combat. You probably noticed I run short campaigns. A one or two session game doesn't give newer players enough time to learn their character sheet. On the other hand, a traditional campaign can take 1 to 3 or more real-life years to finish! By offering games that are 6 to 12 sessions, the game is long enough to give players a fair chance to try out a character, and short enough to get the satisfaction of a completed story without the huge commitment.

Featured Prompts

I deal with rules issues by...

listening to the intent of what the player wants to do; I am usually willing to strike a deal.

Rules are...

meant to encourage consistency and fairness within a TTPRG, not limit the players' creativity.

When it comes to voices

I try to make each NPC unique for ease of understanding who is speaking. I don't "do accents" I merely try to emulate speaking styles from actors and fall short of doing a good impression. I include non-European accents because representation is important to me.

Betsy's ideal table

The ideal table is welcoming and relaxed. I love playing with beginners and new players. Ask me a question any time! I've noticed players at my table generally prioritize teamwork and cultivating friendships in our games. They also look for non-combat options to tense situations.

Featured Prompts

I am for a vibe that's...

"It's been a long day, let's kick back and play!" Sessions that are easy to follow, but might include difficult choices for the players to make.

My table is not the place for...

Folks who like to play against the GM instead of playing through the adventure. For example, players looking to solve problems with unprovoked violence, seduction, toilet humor, or players who treat NPCs as disposable resources won't be a great fit for this table.
