About Vicki
I’m Vicki, and I’ve been a Dungeon Master for over 15 years — and a D&D player for even longer! My DM journey began in the comic book shop my husband and I owned, where I hosted both official Wizards of the Coast events and homegrown campaigns. When the shop closed in 2010, I couldn’t let the adventure end — so I kept running games for friends and local groups, keeping the stories alive. I recently moved to Saint Louis and am now excited to find (or form!) a new adventuring party to share new tales and laughter with. Outside of D&D, I live with my husband and our two dogs, and I love cheering on my nephews at soccer and baseball games. I’m also close with my family and enjoy spending time supporting my parents whenever I can. By day, I work full-time as an SAP Systems Analyst, supporting enterprise software — so yes, technology plays a big role in my life (and it tends to sneak into my games, too!). I’m looking forward to meeting fellow adventurers who love storytelling, creativity, and good company as much as I do. Let’s roll some dice and create something amazing together!

I got started GMing...
The day the D&D 4E came out, my husband and I set up some one shots to celebrate (at our comic book store). However, one of the DMs cancelled at the last minute, so I jumped in and started DM'ing. I never looked back.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Detailed, Benevolent Overlord
When I'm not running games I'm...
Worldbuilding in World Anvil, playing with my dogs and watching my nephews' soccer games
How Vicki runs games
My DM style is very player-focused — I love shaping each game around my players’ interests, goals, and playstyles. I weave character backstories directly into the campaign, check in often for feedback, and adjust the story as we go to make sure everyone feels included and engaged. I aim for a balanced mix of roleplay, combat, and exploration, so every session offers something for everyone to enjoy. The world I run is a homebrewed version of Ptolus (by Monte Cook) — a rich, living setting that I’m always expanding and documenting in World Anvil. I also draw inspiration from amazing third-party creators like Eventyr Games and Kobold Press to keep the adventures fresh and full of surprises. For gameplay, I use Roll20 as a virtual tabletop for maps and minis, but I encourage players to build their characters and roll dice in World Anvil — it helps us take full advantage of the campaign’s custom items, spells, and subclasses. If you’re looking for a welcoming, collaborative, and story-driven D&D experience, I’d love to roll some dice and tell an unforgettable story together!

I deal with rules issues by...
talking through the issue. If the player and I still disagree, I will research it in between games. If/When I am wrong, I will make it up to the players in game.
My games focus on...
my players' goals. It may not be visible at first, but everyone with a backstory and who engages with the world will have a chance to be the main star of a storyline.
Rules are...
there for a reason. But they are not the be all and end all of the game. I definitely believe in the Rule of Cool and changing rules that don't make sense for the party.
Vicki's ideal table
My ideal table is full of players who are excited to dive into their characters—who they are, what drives them, and how they fit into the living, breathing world of Ptolus. I love when players engage with the setting, ask questions, form connections, and let the world inspire their choices. When everyone brings that curiosity and investment to the table, the story becomes richer, more immersive, and far more meaningful than simple dice rolls.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
If you are into a rich, engaging world that is constantly changing as a result of the party's decisions, you are going to love my table.
I love it when a player
really ties their character into the world. I love to have the story revolve around the characters and their goals.
I think it's a red flag when players...
regularly talk over other players, argue with everything and everyone, and constantly tell other players what to do. Players should respect each other, provide suggestions for other players when asked, and respect the game.
