About Behemoth
Hey-o, I'm Behemoth! I've been GMing for Dungeons & Dragons and other RPGs since 2014. I've primarily run games like Dungeons & Dragons, FIST: Ultra Edition and City of Mist with a mixture of in-person and online tabletop groups, through Discord, Roll20 and Owlbear Rodeo. I learned how to play my first TTRPG with Dungeons & Dragons 5e's Starter Set, because I found the box in a bookstore one fateful July in 2014. I never thought for a second that a hobby like this would be something I'd end up doing 10+ years later! Overall it has been a net positive for my life, as I've changed and evolved as human being I have been blessed to meet so many kind, cool and interesting people throughout it all. Now I'd like to share the magic of those adventures with you!

I got started GMing...
It was July of '14 and I had been spending every living hour of the summer playing video games with my family, but later that day I was in a local bookstore when I saw the D&D 5e Starter Set while waiting in line to buy Dan Brown's Inferno. I swapped the book for the box, and the rest is history.
My favorite shows/movies are
Godzilla Minus One, Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) and Om Shanti Om
How Behemoth runs games
While running games I prefer to create an experience where the player-character's have their strengths highlighted and their weaknesses challenged, something to truly bring their whole character sheet into the scope of the game. I prefer combat encounters with varied environmental features (i.e: dangers, cover, verticality, etc.) and enemies with abilities and features that the player-characters can respond to outside of just hitting them; this helps to foster a more creative and engaging combat that will have players less likely to fall asleep in the middle of. When I run roleplay encounters, I always prefer a sense of tension and purpose. Making roleplay encounters feel like they have weight, but not just some information dump, is very important to my game.

Rules are...
The skeleton of any TTRPG, but the meat of it is made of the people at the table. Rules are fine in guiding how the game should be played out, but the moment to moment should be guided by what feels fun and fluid. Especially if the rule feel in the way.
When it comes to voices
I love doing terrible impressions and cartoonish voices. It helps define a character and keep the game master (me) and player in character.
Behemoth's ideal table
My ideal table is one built on the basis of respect for each other and for the spirit of the games we play. Ultimately this is a place where strangers can become good friends, where we can escape a little or face real world issues with the ability to directly change them. My players shouldn't be afraid to play this game they want, but as long as that is tempered with the fiction of the game. My players should recognize that winning doesn't always mean being victorious, sometimes a dramatic defeat or tragic death can be just as rewarding as looting bosses or slaying hordes; with that being said, be prepared to be tested in combat, single objective combats are NOT what my table offers.

I think metagaming...
can be unavoidable at times, despite how much homebrew can be involved in a game. I think there is an honest way to do it that can highlight characters and encounters, but there is also a dishonest way to metagame that undermines the game for everyone involved.
My table is not the place for...
sexual themes and fantasy racism.
