About Bee

Hello! I'm Bee, and I've been a GM for about three years. I mostly play Dungeons & Dragons 5e, but I also enjoy Kids on Bikes/Brooms/in Space, The Magnus Archives TTRPG, Old Gods of Appalachia TTRPG, and Candela Obscura. I love learning new systems, and I love teaching new players! I typically ask people to fill out a red/yellow/green checklist before playing with some common triggers. I believe everyone deserves to have fun, and I want to make sure the fun isn't ruined for someone based on something avoidable.

I became a GM because

I tried to get into playing TTRPG's, but I had a couple bad experiences with other GMs. I decided that I had enough and that I would just run my own games with my friends and learn how to play along the way, and then I loved it!

My favorite shows/movies are

Cowboy Bebop, Dimension 20, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Sailor Moon

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Thoughtful, playful, fair

How Bee runs games

My games are typically roleplay heavy. I am very interested in the story, more so than the battles. I do love to put a few battles in that further the plot, and of course you can't end without a final BBEG conflict! I typically ask my players to fill out a red/yellow/green checklist of common triggers so the entire table knows what topics need to be avoided. I want to make sure my players all feel safe, comfortable, and get to have fun. I love that the dice tell the story as much as we do, so I typically ask for a lot of rolls. I love to reward silly and bold acts in game, so dream big!

I deal with rules issues by...

If it's an issue of game rules, then we can talk about it and check the source material to decide as a table. If someone breaks a table rule and is no longer respecting other players or the red list, then I will deal with it in the moment to ensure everyone is still able to enjoy the game.

I prep by

Creating spreadsheets and a master document of major plot points, important items, names, and important locations. Before every new session, I make sure I have snacks available, my water filled, and I review any previous notes to make sure I know what everyone has accomplished so far.

Rules are...

Fine as guidelines, but I will bend them without hesitation if it furthers the story or if my players do something cool/funny and I want it to work.

Bee's ideal table

I love to play with all skill levels, brand new to experienced. It's fun to see new players come out of their shell, and it's fun to see the shennanigans experienced players will come up with that still follow the official rules. I like when people do bold and funny things, and I reward that liberally. If it's clever or makes me laugh, I will give inspiration, advantage, or something else to help make it happen. I believe in the rule of cool, and prefer players that feel comfortable coloring outside the lines, so to speak.

I love it when a player

Does something funny! I love when people do silly things, I think it's important to break the tension in serious campaigns, and also to not take the game too seriously.

I think it's a red flag when players...

-Try to push back on the red list -Refuse to communicate when something upsets them -Tries to be the main character

I think metagaming...

Is generally a bad idea. I focus a lot more on the game story, so if your character has never encountered a monster or NPC before, and has no realistic way of knowing things about them, then get yourself into that headspace! Immersion!
