About me

Hey folks! I’m Dan (he/him – 33 – Bi) from Assurance Arcana. I got into TTRPGs in early 2019 and instantly fell in love. Since then, I’ve been running a minimum of two weekly games at all times. I can’t stop! This hobby means too much to me. I think the greatest joy in GMing is seeing the table come alive during sessions – to celebrate impossible victories and curse bitter defeats – and to see the friendships people (and their PCs) form during campaigns. There’s magic in TTRPGs. Good times between great people mean the world to me. Get in touch. Let’s chat to see if we’re a good match!

GM Style

As a GM, I prefer running homebrew content with a big focus on player agency. In general, expect to be presented with lots of open-ended problems to solve rather than being led by the nose along a predetermined story. I still work to make sure the party is grounded in the setting and has clear goals to work towards, but I don’t consider it my job to figure out how you’ll accomplish those goals. That’s where you come in. I consider improv and running wild with the good ideas of my players to be one of my biggest strengths. Accommodating the machinations of my players brings me endless joy and I firmly believe it’s the players who should be in the driver’s seat. When it comes to d20 fantasy, the more I allow the players to direct the campaign, the less certain my prep becomes. How can I know that hours of prep on a dungeon will pay off when my players might never go there? It’s their story to tell, after all. As such, my prepped dungeons won’t typically feature the wildest bells and whistles like sound SFX activated by stepping on tiles. They’ll still be functional and look great, but I’ll always prioritize player agency over the Disney World experience. I’m not running Paizo Foundry modules out of the box, after all. Beyond that, I strive to be fair as a GM. My worlds are filled with challenges. I think accomplishing things should feel possible – likely, even, with good prep, teamwork, and a bit of luck – but never guaranteed. I tend to run RAW but with a degree of flexibility when narratively appropriate or cool. I strive to present complex – and fantastic – settings where NPCs act in accordance with their goals. I’ve got a decent vocal range and try to voice my NPCs. Lastly, I’m big on DMing over Discord with webcams on. I feel like the energy of groups skyrockets when we all commit to video calls. This isn’t a must for me (discussed during session 0) but it’s a heavy preference for me.
