About Ian
I am an archaeologist, writer, and content creator who has been playing DnD and other TTRPGS for the better part of a decade and GMing my own homebrew world for well over six years. I also run a bi-monthly homebrew DnD stream on Twitch.

I got started GMing...
... during the Covid pandemic. I was in the last couple years of my undergrad and I started missing my friends terribly. A year or so prior, a few theater buddies had introduced me to D&D. Around late 2019, I wrote my own homebrew setting and offered to GM some close friends and the rest is history.
My favorite books are
... anything by Terry Pratchett, especially Discworld. I am also partial to the Witcher Series, Paolini's Inheritance Cycle, and anything to do with magic or mythology. I love my whimsical comedy as much as my dark brooding adventures.

How Ian runs games
My sessions lean heavily into roleplay, but I will often sprinkle in combat, puzzles, and skill contests to enrich the roleplaying experience. I run lore-rich worlds with plenty of opportunities for characters to immerse themselves. My overall focus is to promote player agency and integration into the story by rewarding creativity and in-character improvisation.

My favorite trope is...
... actually any trope I can subvert. Clichés, tropes, and the like are best when you can give them a twist. I know many game masters and writers who hate tropes, but I prefer when they are used imaginatively.
Rules are...
... meant as overall guidelines, but not as something to strictly adhere to.
When it comes to voices
... I prefer the policy of simply having fun. (Usually) No one at my table is a voice actor, so it's fine if a voice impression or accent isn't perfect. In my opinion, it's those little moments of imperfection that make a game fun. As long as it isn't outright offensive, I welcome it.
Ian's ideal table
On average, I hold casual tables with people of mixed experience levels and play-styles. No one is expected to know all of the rules and lore, and priority is placed on comfort and safety over technical play. Players who tend to excel at my tables are those who realize they are playing a game and are willing to create stories with others.

I am for a vibe that's...
... casual and cozy, even for campaigns with more serious themes. My number one priority is player comfort and safety, which means ensuring that everyone is ok during discussions both in and out of character.
I love it when a player
...gets into the mind of their character. I heavily encourage roleplay between PCs and the building of interconnected personal story arcs. Even more-so, I love when a player finds creative alternate solutions to problems that I have not anticipated.
My table is not the place for...
... people who want to go it alone. TTRPGs are about group cooperation and storytelling. Those who break that dynamic will have a hard time at my table.
