About Anna Mac

Hi, I'm Anna! I'm an improvisor and musician from PA, and I have an adorable cat named Toffee who loves to sleep on my computer during game sessions when she's not stealing dice. My first tabletop ever was one I GM-ed for my siblings; we all love LoTR, so when I stumbled across The One Ring system I just had to give it a go! Our new favorite is the Monty Python RPG, which I also ran as a spinoff one shot for the Curse of Strahd campaign where I'm a player. I've played in and GM-ed a few D&D 5e campaigns as well, and everything I run has a large dose of homebrew silliness thrown in the mix.

My favorite books are

I love Lord of the Rings and Dune, but my number 1 is the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I absolutely adore the way Douglas Adams writes, he's fantastic!

My favorite system of all Time is

Monty Python's Cocurricular Mediaeval Reenactment Programme. As someone who was obsessed with Monty Python as a kid and grew up to be a very silly person indeed, this system is a perfect fit for how my brain operates and super fun to run & play.

People are always surprised when I tell them

I play flute, bass, and bass flute. I'm only okay at bass guitar, but it's too good of a coincidence to not include in the list lol

How Anna Mac runs games

Roleplay is my favorite part of tabletop games, so my games usually tend to be adventures where players investigate a problem or are tasked with finding someone/something rather than lots of combat. I tend to aim for a PG-13 table, so for example if players do end up in a terrible battle, I'm not going to describe it in all its gory detail. If you love a meandering adventure, great! If you want to get right to the point, also great! There's always plenty of adventure options prepared and NPCs to help guide if needed, so the most important thing is that the players are all on the same page so no one is frustrated by the pace of the game.

I prep by

preparing locations and NPCs as an outline so that no matter which path the PCs decide to take, I can fill in the details in the moment. For example, I'll prep a list of shops and merchandise, but which shops are in each town isn't usually determined until the PCs investigate.

My favorite trope is...

a shopkeep who knows everything about everyone, but rumors are for customers only.

Rules are...

important, but not as important as a good story. We're here to have fun and craft a story together, so if something makes sense for a character I'm happy to bend a rule here and there to allow it.

Anna Mac's ideal table

I like my table to be a space where everyone feels comfortable to express themselves and let their imagination roam. Players who love a going on a quest and players who get easily sidetracked from that quest by coming up with their own schemes would fit in well. Overall, my table is a cozy place with a sprinkle of chaos (and a good dose of puns, apologies in advance)

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Adam West Batman, because of the way that the villains are very serious about their very silly villainy.

I love it when a player

finds a creative way to solve a puzzle that I hadn't thought of, especially when it's something that unexpectedly related to their character's backstory.
