About me

Hello! My background and style: I started running TTRPGs shortly after being introduced to them several years ago, and I fell in love with running games. The creation of collaborative stories at the table, unique to your group is an enchanting and thrilling exercise, and one I relish being part of. I always try to put the story of the game first and foremost without getting too bogged down in rules minutia or granular combat. I am constantly improving my craft by connecting with the TTRPG community, particularly content creators in the GMing space, and I strive to make my games as memorable, exciting, and spell-binding as possible. You can expect incredibly evocative descriptions in my games as I have been writing professionally for dScryb.com for a year now, and in that time I have published close to 1000 scenes of enthralling descriptive boxed text on the site. I look forward to our adventures together! Alex :)

GM Style

A brief note about safety tools and inclusivity: I use safety tools in all of my games (mainly lines, veils, content questionnaires) to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and respected at the table. Furthermore, everyone is welcome at my table and will be asked which pronouns they prefer (should they wish to share) before we begin. TTRPGs are for everyone, and anyone who doesn't respect that fact has no place in my games. I am a narrative GM first and foremost (with a background in writing), I love creating collaborative stories within immersive worlds and watching the magic unfold at the table with my players. However, I can certainly run nuanced tactical combat if need be! I am learning more systems and will start running games of : Cyberpunk Red, Brains & Brawn, Call of Cthulhu and many more in the near future!

Alex set up a game for beginners when I played with him. Using pre-created character sheets for stats that allowed for players to make up their own characters around them helped those who are unfamiliar with all the various and sometimes complicated parts of making a new ttrpg character. He did different voices for the characters in the world, had good background and lore for the world, and ran with what the players ended up doing over attempting to force us down a led path.

Helped me much as a beginner learning the basics.

I took part in a D&D one-shot with Alex. The party consisted mostly of people new to D&D/TTRPGs. Alex was great at setting up the world and explaining how things worked. We were using pre-generated characters, which greatly reduced the barrier to entry for new players. All in all I can highly recommend Alex to people new to the hobby.

Alex is great at description and even does voices. He adapts the game to your choices and roleplaying. We managed to get past an angry, wounded manticore (with a very manticore voice) with some kind words and healing. Probably saved us some resources for the very tough villain at the end...

I've only played a one-shot with him, but from that experience he was very good. Well-prepared, used safety tools, provided clear expectations for the premise of the game.

Played with for some time as both player and DM across multiple systems, though mostly DnD 5e. A creative and thoughtful individual with a talent for tense but still social situations- like discussions with normally hostile mercenaries, haughty lords etc. They give each player equal time to shine, is generous- but again fair- with loot, and is a keen listener both in and out of session. Also entertains a good variety in combat- though this is not their priority in sessions. Mixes things up with a few memorable moments of accessible yet interesting mechanics, like awarding the targetting of weakspots- as well as often overlooked mechanics like grappling and, if you can believe it, non-lethal attacks. It goes without saying it's immersive when Neutral-aligned characters *aren't* bloodthirsty fools. Good knowledge of world lore, game rules, and indeed, writing their own content. A very respectable individual both around the table and off it as well. 100% would recommend.
