About Alec
Hey all! My name is Alec. I am a writer, game master, and professional dork. I've been living and breathing TTRPGs since I played D&D for the first time at Gen Con in 2015. Mere days after my first time playing, I was GMing! I absolutely love the storytelling power of role-playing games, and have the most fun running games filled with plenty of roleplay, mystery, and high stakes combat. Fantasy and horror have a special place in my heart, and I'm always looking to bring new friends into worlds of fantastical horror! In my 10+ years of being a game master, one of the great joys of my life has been introducing new players to TTRPGs. So whether you are a veteran player, or you barely even know what a dungeon or a dragon is, I want to tell a story with you! 🔶️Writer🔷️Fantasy🔶️Horror🔷️Role-play🔶️Storytelling🔷️High Stakes Combat

I got started GMing...
when I was in middle school. I had just played for the first time at Gen Con, and had to share how awesome Dungeons & Dragons was with my friends! As the years went on, I kept running games and having many of my most cherished moments playing TTRPGs!
People are always surprised when I tell them
People are always surprised when I tell them that I am a 5th degree black belt in Taekwondo, and Chief Instructor of my martial arts school. Which means I love teaching, and I love describing monks and fighters in the heat of battle!!!
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
"Welcoming, Engaging, Passionate" - ES "Professional, Immersive, Open-minded" - AK "Organized, Involved, Spooky" - CM "Understanding, Supportive, Creative" - AK "Adventurous, Creative, Authentic" - PH
How Alec runs games
I am a player-first game master. Collaborative storytelling means that everyone in the game is an equal, and we are all working together to tell a story. Through combat, roleplay encounters, and exploration, what matters the most is that the PLAYERS enjoy the STORY we are telling TOGETHER. Those stories include: 🎃Spooky NPCs, frightening foes, and haunting mysteries to investigate! 🐉Epic combat, dark fantasy, and heroes as the light in the darkness 🦄Funny NPCs, moments of brevity and laughter. Do you want a pet unicorn? It could happen! ☠ High stakes combat encounters 🎭Role-play, imaginative worlds and lore, Theater of the Mind 🎲Powerful CRITS with Exploding Dice

I deal with rules issues by...
talking it out. I consider myself pretty rules-light, but if there is ever disagreement on how a rule works, we will check the rules as written, and talk it out as a group. Communication and compromise is key to a healthy game!
Rules are...
there to inspire imagination, not restrict it. I am always happy to negotiate a little rule bending in the name of a great moment. Sometimes the rules do have to be enforced, BUT ALWAYS say your idea, even if it is outside the rules. I WANT to hear your ideas!
When it comes to voices
Oh voices are going to happen! Some will be good. Some will be bad. You may like the bad ones the best. But all of them will be done with 100% effort, resulting in some combination of funny, scary, cool, and definitely not cool. Please cast Speak with Animals and Speak with Plants!
Alec's ideal table
My ideal table is filled with kind, respectful players who embrace COLLABORATION and STORYTELLING. I want players to share the spotlight, be fans of each others' characters, and help the game to be a safe space for everyone to express themselves. At my table, we are all on a team. It isn't Game Master vs. the Players. It certainly isn't Players vs. Players. We are working together to tell a story that only could be told by that group of people at the table. That's what makes it so special!

I love it when a player
isn't afraid to express themself and their character. Not every character needs to do a voice or anything, but when a player is comfortable enough to play and perform in-character, it helps the other players join in the fun.
I think it's a red flag when players...
try to "win" the game. Enjoy the game and the story. Be strategic. Defeat the enemies. But know that the real way to win at a TTRPG is to enjoy your time with the people at the table.
