About Arnoux

I'm Arnoux, and I've been running Aeon Roleplay since 2017. Every 6 months, we run a variety of campaigns (adventure, political, mystery, exploration, etc.) in different systems, like D&D 2024. While we may have some one-shots, we mostly run 20 week campaigns, which let us explore character backstories along with a main plot, with usually 1-3 story arcs. For us, that's the perfect slice of roleplaying: enough to really fall in love with a group, but not a commitment that lasts forever. I've run a variety of game systems and even published some of my own, which includes the Definitive Wrestling RPG, a one-shot fave in our community. My favorite part of roleplaying games is taking a player character's backstory and weaving it into the world and the story. There is nothing more rewarding than the feeling of playing a character who feels like they belong and grew up in a setting, rather than just being dropped into it. And if you love that kind of immersion, too, then I can't wait to get you in a game!

I became a GM because

I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else. I love telling the stories of others, and I love experiencing new perspectives.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Immersive, Character, Consequences

When I'm not running games I'm...

Working on my own tabletop rpgs. I love delving on, writing up, and testing new rule systems, in my spare time.

How Arnoux runs games

Much like a telltale game, I believe in choices & consequences. Unlike most telltale games, I give you more than 3 options, let you write your own choices, and make sure that every choice matters. I have casts of vibrant NPCs both loveable, detestable, and indispensable, and you can expect to find yourselves pivotal to their lives after having entered them like a wrecking ball. As for genre, I run them all. Really. I run them ALL. If you want tactical combats, strategic warfare, a romcom, mystery, or hexcrawl, I will run anything for anyone. I focus on 20-week campaigns, which let players tackle a main story over usually 1-3 different acts, where player character backstories matter, either as side plots or the main driving plot. My groups find this to be just the right amount of commitment to get the most out of an RPG campaign.

I prep by

using index cards to jot notes on a scene per scene basis. As a session changes in real time, I add cards, change their order, and remove them all together. It's very flexible.

My games focus on...

realistic npcs who all have flaws, ambitions, and obligations. They don't just exist to fight with the player characters, they fight with each other and have messy relationships, that you're sometimes dragged into.

Rules are...

a language we use to speak to one another. Every table has its own vernacular. And even when all tables have the same rules, each table might have its own meaning.

Arnoux's ideal table

A table that gets along with each other. It's a conversation I've had more times than I can count: I will run any time of game, even your wildest fantasies, but only if you can find a party that agrees on it. Whether its heavy roleplay, strategy, action sequences, hexcrawls, or whatever: I love it if the whole parties onboard. My favorite thing about TRPGs is genre-agnostic, mechanics-agnostic, and system-agnostic: I love choices & consequences. I want a game that matters to everyone at the table.

I love it when a player

can bring the whole party together. Whether as a party's charismatic face, their massive brain, or their courageous leadership.

I think it's a red flag when players...

decide their game and story is more important than the game and story of anyone else at the table, and especially when they think it's more important than *everyone* else at the table. If you made a character who everyone hates: make a new character.

I think metagaming...

metagaming, min/maxing, net builds, etc. are all A-Okay in my book. As long as you're doing a build that you have fun with, I will be able to handle it. If your build makes others feel obsolete or ineffective, don't worry: that's a 'me' problem. I'll fix that.
