About Joji

🦇 Khello Strangers!🦇 Joji Hastur here, an experienced GM from far off land of Australia. I've been telling stories with others for over a decade and I hope to have the privilege to tell some stories with you. As a Queer, Neurodivergent, Transgirl I like to think I make a very welcoming space to all types of folk. I have lots of experience with new players and am able to balance a game for all types, Be it combat or role-play my games will be able to scratch that itch. I am big fan of cosmic, body and gothic horror and I am known for my, many, many spooky voices. I cut through all that terror with just as much silly as I believe in balance in all things. I've practically lived in the Mists of Barovia for the last free years but I alot of my experience is in my own homebreworlds. Want to fight demons in muddy WW1 trenches, escape a Fairy run prison in the faywild or hunt dinosaurs in a cyberpunk city, I am your girl! I love me some Mörk Borg so I'll be trying to run alot more of that this year. Please feel free to shoot me a message as I can also run your chosen games for your group. Can't wait to roll some dice with you.

I became a GM because

I tire of playing one character for a long time. I was that player always asking my GM if I could switch to a new one,

My favorite books are

The Red Queen's War/ The Broken Empire. I absolutely love Mark Lawrences writing his prone is so beautiful and his world are very dark and human. I also adore the Lucifer comics written my MIke Carey. It is at once a story about the biggest stakes of saving not just the universe but super personal.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Painting horror pieces of my favorite Podcast The Magnus Archives or hanging out with my girlfriend listening to Behind the Bastards.

How Joji runs games

I'm definitely leaning towards a 60/40 Roleplay to Combat preference but I do love me a multistage boss fight with environmental hazards. I think the threat of a for other narrative stakes can make even a combat free session very tense. I always try and have you be there Hero'/or Villains of the tale the world moves because of our action/inaction. I have a large range of character voices and I'm always work-shopping more into my rotation. I love to homebrew as 5e is starting to show it's age and for those of us who have been playing a while a bit of something fresh is welcome.

I once ran a session...

Where I had 3 players trapped in a dungeon, one (he escaped capture) who REALLY didn't want to be brave and save them and a brand new player who was completely new to dnd/roleplaying. These threads all came together and

My favorite trope is...

Terrible men who are self destructive/self pitying and get their comeuppance. That and angry sword lesbians.

When it comes to voices

I take them home with me. My poor girlfriend lives a life of pain with clowns, vampire nobles and British aristocrats telling them to brush their teeth. Even when they are SUPER eeepy, I am a menace.

Joji's ideal table

Featured Prompts

I am for a vibe that's...

Grim, full of love, bloody and maybe a little flirty..

I love it when a player

Makes choices that they know aren't ideal but show off a flaw and help tell the story.

I think min/maxing...

Is fine as long as you are willing to embrace the parts of your character that aren't powerful or optimal. Failure is fun and tells good stories as much as being the best at a certain task. Also your character should be doing everything, there's an entire party there to back you up.
