About Keeper David

Hey! My name is David Miller and I have been playing tabletop role playing games since I was 15 years old. That was in 1984! That makes me what's called a Grognard. Or they used to call it that? I digress. I have played D&D (every flavor except 4th edition), Call of Cthulhu, Gamma World, Top Secret, Boot Hill, Star Frontiers, Car Wars, Bushido, Powers and Perils, Traveller, Rolemaster sillyness, Toon!, Marvel RPG, Empire of the Petal Throne, Talislanta, Middle-Earth Role-Playing Game, Night's Black Agents, Paranoia, Pathfinder, Runequest, Savage Worlds, Shadowrun, Star Trek, Star Wars, Warhammer Fantasy RPG, and ALL of the Storyteller / World of Darkness flavors. Ah! The 90s!! I started running many of those games shortly after I started playing them. Most of my experience has been running Call of Cthulhu and the World of Darkness games, kind of in that order. I have run games at home, at game stores, at cons, and online for friends and for strangers. I am a father of three, a licensed therapist, an Auburn University graduate (War Eagle!), a survivor of the Satanic Panic, and a storyteller from a long line of storytellers. I also grew up in the same place as Boo Radley. Sort of. They have made TWO movies about my home town! I am confident that if you join one of my games you will enjoy yourself. Otherwise, I wouldn't be trying to charge money for it, right?

I got started GMing...

There were only three on us in my tiny little town and so somebody had to do it.

My favorite system of all Time is

Storyteller. It's right there in the name.

When I'm not running games I'm...

A licensed therapist who is also slowly letting ALL the streaming services kill me.

How Keeper David runs games

To begin with, I have to know what my players want. Do they want combat? Got it! I'll make sure they get that. Do they want to roleplay their characters? I'll make sure that happens. Do they want to uncover mysteries and gather clues? I'll make sure that happens. Do they want a lot of cool handouts and art and maps and such. Done! That said, each player will undoubtedly want different amounts of those things, and so I have to balance each session so that everyone can get their fill without it being too much for some. As I learn any given table I learn how to do that dance so that everyone comes away satisfied. I took a poll of my previous / current players, and they had this to say about me: Well researched, detailed, real world scenarios. Helpful and organized GM, helpful to players from retconning to keeping them updated on past and upcoming events. Descriptive as well. Free form, Collaborator/Facilitator, Narrator/Director Your GM style is collaborative and you don't railroad. You're really good at keeping long threads going about character events that affect them later in the game. You're particularly good at managing large parties. You're good at RP, both between characters and NPCs and allowing for intra-party RP. One thing I'll say for sure is that you do your homework - the amount of data and documentation and suchlike that you've put into the Masks campaign is daunting.

Keeper David's ideal table

I want everyone to feel like they are getting an opportunity to participate / contribute, while being challenged by the situations that they are confronting. I want everyone to feel like they had a hand in defeating the foe / solving the mystery / making the connections / etc. And I want all of this to happen in an environment where everyone is getting along while also enjoying themselves. I really dislike PvP.
