About Crystal
Hello, I'm an extraordinarily well-read nerd and rpg enthusiast who has been GM'ing non-professionally for my friends for 5 years, and have enjoyed games, fantasy, and sci-fi since I was 4 years old. My first forays into ttrpgs began when my older brother needed an extra player at the table for a 3.5 game he was running. I fell in love and have been playing mostly D&D since then, though I have also played Pathfinder 1e and the Star Wars RPG.

I got started GMing...
during the pandemic when I wanted to maintain connections with my friends, but no one else wanted to run the game. We played in the Humblewood campaign setting and expanded the story until 2 years later the characters were level 14. It was an incredible experience!
My favorite system of all Time is
always going to be D&D as it was a way to spend time with my family and cultivate new friendships.
When I'm not running games I'm...
watching actual plays, listening to podcasts, knitting, crocheting, or watching D&D YouTube.
How Crystal runs games
I love to improv and use silly voices. Collaborating with players and creating a space to showcase creativity, roleplay, and crafting a good story are some of my favorite things for games. I tend to lean more toward Rules as Intended than Rules as Written, especially if it allows players to do cool things! I tend to run more roleplay heavy games, and there's always room for a fun combat or three! I use Discord for voice chat and sharing campaign info, and primarily Roll20 for running characters and showing maps. I have tokens and battle scenes for combats, and like to find images to evoke a scene for theater of the mind roleplay. I do enjoy music to help build atmosphere and mood.

I once ran a session...
splitting the party between a group that had run into a forest full of enemies and another group on a high speed chase trying to escape a bandit camp in an attempt to reunite both groups. They survived and came back together!
I prep by
ensuring I have good notes on locations, npcs, and scenarios. Also love to find good art for character descriptions and music to set the atmosphere.
Rules are...
necessary but I consider to be more like guidelines than strict rules. It helps to have boundaries and a risk for failure to make the victories all the sweeter.
