About Jerry

Hello, I go by Salty. 30. He/Him. Gay. I've been playing DnD for 8ish years, and have been DMing for 4. This game was a savior during covid, and it is the one obsession that hasn't fizzled out over time. Most of my day is spent thinking about this game, running it, or watching/listening to others running it. I have ran all types of games, from high fantasy saving the world from the death god, to more scifi things of animal folk figuring out their walking monoliths are actually terraforming robots from another planet. Right now I've been enjoying a more straight forward type of game that is lead more by the decisions of the party instead of the powers that be. Like currently, I've been running Goblin Trouble campaigns, which is an open world survival/exploration game where anything could be around the corner and the party fully decides where they go and what matters in the world.

I got started GMing...

Watching other GMs run their games, creating plot and story beats, making me cry or feel things about the world and npcs, or bringing the party together seamlessly. After being a player for years, I think it became difficult not to get behind the screen myself. It has only brought me more joy.

How Jerry runs games

My style is pretty relaxed, but fair. I usually come to rule disagreements quite quickly. If I'm shown something that is more by the rules, I usually go with that. Anything that could be up for interpretation is usually a group conversation about what way we want to run it going forward. I do play with cameras on while using discord. I know some people don't want to show their face, but I do believe it enhances the experience of the game. Seeing each others faces has personally heightened the ability to communicate, helped with not talking over each other, and allows for a feeling of sitting at the table with friends. Lately I have been enjoying combat more than I used to and figuring out ways to work that combat with/and into roleplay. My more recent games have shifted into being more combat, and it's so fun to figure out how and why the enemies are where they are, what they know, how they fight, etc. I'm sure I could keep going, but let's have some fun!

My tables have been relaxed, but focused on the game. I try to keep pace pretty well, so it's rare that there isn't something to interact with. I have had serious and more quieter players alongside more confidant and aggressive choice makers. I enjoy when the group is filled with different ideas and personalities that can think in different ways from each other. OR make interesting decisions that lead the story in a way I or the other players weren't ecpecting.
