About Daniel
Hello! I'm Daniel, a queer GM based in New York City. I've been playing and GMing D&D 5e since 2014. I came into D&D from theater and improv, and I love roleplaying and story driven adventures. I love teaching new players how to play games and watching them discover the joy of sharing an adventure with new friends. For me, roleplaying games are about building a story together. I will bring all of the set pieces, but your choices will decide what form they take when put together. Even if you’re unsure how, we’ll take that journey together one step at a time, and you’ll leave with fun and exciting memories. Come play games with me, and we’ll have a great time!

I got started GMing...
I GM'd for the first time while a friend was visiting from out of town. I got super ambitious and wrote a one-shot. I had no idea what I was doing and nearly killed level 1 dnd characters trying to jump over a 5' pit trap because I didn't know the rules for jumping! I've learned a lot since then!
My favorite shows/movies are
Andor, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Game Changer, The Owl House, The Incredibles, Mean Girls, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Fleabag, Please Like Me, Digimon: Tamers, Juno, Knives Out, Poker Face, X2: X-Men United, X-Men '97, Kubo and the Two Strings, Mulan, Spirited Away
How Daniel runs games
I love collaborative storytelling, and my favorite GMing moments are when I get to work hand in hand with players to craft a shared story. I run fiction-forward adventures that start and end with the narrative and use the system's rules to support the story being told at the table. I love roleplaying allies and enemies alike, using my background in theater and improv to create larger-than-life characters and voices to fill out the world. I'm no slacker when it comes to combat though - you can expect challenging and varied combat encounters that drive the narrative forward. I'm experienced in running combat for both beginner adventurers and epic level heroes. In campaigns, I love to build adventures around the player characters, tying their backstories and goals into the narrative to create fun and rewarding character arcs. Before we begin, we'll talk about your goals and boundaries for your character's story so I know when to twist the knife deeper and when to pull a punch.

I deal with rules issues by...
My goal is to keep the game moving forward. If we have a disagreement, we'll have a short back and forth before I make a good-faith choice to keep the game moving forward. My rule of thumb: if I make a mistake that hurts you, I'll do my best to fix it; if it helps you, we'll let it slide!
My games focus on...
I love to focus on player-driven stories. Even in one-shots I love seeing what choices a player brings to the table and how they take ownership of their piece of the story. I can write fun and compelling situations, but the exciting part is seeing how different players choose to interact with them.
When it comes to voices
I just can't help myself! I come from theater and improv, and I love coming up with different voices for characters and creatures.
Daniel's ideal table
My ideal table is filled with proactive, collaborative players who enjoy sharing ownership of the story with each other and with me. I try to keep a friendly and welcoming atmosphere so that players feel comfortable engaging with the story rather than being passive participants. I've introduced many beginner players to their first roleplaying games. As long as you're willing to try, I'm happy to help you navigate your first time playing!

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
A little bit of trauma, but in a fun way. I love a good story, and sometimes stories are sad! I try to bring player characters into the narrative and give them something to invest in. If you're excited about that, whether it be joyous or tragic, we're going to have a good time playing together.
I love it when a player
I love it when a player is unafraid of taking risks at the table and makes big character swings. Bold choices make fun and exciting games. Sometimes hitting the big red button is the most interesting thing that can happen, even when we all know it's a bad idea.
