About the adventure

Join me for a free sample session of my bi-monthly game - friendly to drop-ins and returning players! Would love to get to know you and show you what a game with me is like. In the North of Faerûn, the powerful cities of Mirabar and Waterdeep are connected by the Long Road. Dotted with towns, villages, and cities, the Long Road is an adventure in and of itself. But smack in the middle lies a thrill that any adventurer is lucky to experience: Longsaddle. This ranching town is a microcosm of intrigue, business, and mystery. Warring ranching families smile with gentility while secretly fighting for control of the town's economy. The popular Gambling Golem attracts some of the best and most nefarious gamblers on the continent. Up at the Ivy Mansion, the wizarding Harpell family operates a small academy while supplying individuals both good and questionable with magical goods and services. And from the woods surrounding the town, there can be heard howls from what locals say is a mysterious tribe of lycanthropes that never breaks the tree line. You are young adventurers that find yourselves in this small yet bustling hamlet. What alliances will you make? Will you find your inner mage and join the ranks of some of the most powerful wizards around? And will you survive the terror that lies beyond the trees - or is there no terror to survive?

How to prepare

For gameplay, you'll need a webcam and mic (your default phone or computer cam and mic are fine) as well as Discord, which will host our voice/video/text. I understand that some people prefer to not to use video, so if that's you, I'm totally fine with that. We'll be using theater of the mind for encounters, although I may pass along maps for reference in some cases. Please provide your own method for rolling dice as well as have your characters created before the game session (see "Character Creation"). You'll need to use D&D Beyond for this. However, I will be able to share paid D&D Beyond content with you in advance. Once you have this digital character sheet, you can use it to keep track of spells, abilities, items, and gold. If you have a Player's Handbook and any other books, feel free to have them with you for reference, but they won't be necessary. And have something to take notes in case there are things you want to remember from session to session.

What I provide

I will provide all players with paid content from D&D Beyond to create character sheets in advance. I'll also provide information about getting set up in Discord if you require assistance.

Gameplay details

There is much to do in Longsaddle, and while there is plenty happening under the surface, what you make of your time here is up to you. This campaign will reward those who stick with it for several sessions while being open and accessible to those joining for the first time. And while the many colorful, storied, and sometimes wacky inhabitants of Longsaddle make for an adventure filled with roleplay, there will be plenty of opportunities for battle as well as some exploration - from the woods outside of town to an old, haunted house where only the bravest and most cavalier of young people dare to enter. To help ensure that every player is comfortable and having a great time as we traverse the town of Longsaddle, I'll be setting lines and veils prior to the start of gameplay with each player to ensure maximum comfort. These lines and veils will inform gameplay and ensure the ability to "fade to black" whenever needed. During the session, we'll be employing X, N, and O signals in chat as needed. We'll also be ending each session with a brief Highlight Reel and Wrap Session to discuss the game session and ensure fun and engaging future sessions.

How will character creation work

Please arrive with level 3 characters. Any races, backgrounds, and subclasses from officially published Wizards of the Coast 5e source books or adventures is acceptable. Please use standard array or point buy in determining ability scores. If you need a character, I have pre-built sheets that I am happy to pass along to you. You need only let me know in advance. In addition, please provide at least a short paragraph about your character in advance of joining the game detailing where they come from, what they hope to achieve, any alliances or enemies that they might already have (if applicable), and one heroic (or nefarious) thing that they've accomplished to date. This will allow me to build interesting things into the story for you specifically and allow you to be the hero of the adventure along with all other players. Finally, for all of my players who like to build characters with evil or very chaotic tendencies, please have a reason that your character would be willing to work collaboratively and cooperatively with a group in achieving a common goal!

Players can expect
