Waterdeep Dragon Heist (D&D 5e) **for beginner players**

About the adventure

A game for beginners! I love teaching newbies and creating safe spaces to explore the amazing game of D&D, especially for women, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ peeps. In this game, you and your fellow party members will be hired by famed traveller and storyteller, Volothamp Geddarm, for a simple quest in the city of Waterdeep. As you progress in your investigation, you may discover things aren't quite as simple as they first seemed... This game is an urban caper where you and your party will need to pit your skill and bravado against a villianous plot that might reach all the way up to some of the city's most influential figures.

How to prepare

As far as knowledge of the game, none is needed! I've taught close to 50 people how to play this game at this point, so new players are encouraged to play! For session 0, the bare minimum you'll need is access to Google Hangouts or Discord. From this point on, I can guide you through this stuff in session 0...we'll be building your characters through dndbeyond.com (I have all the content, which I can share with you) so I have access to view your character's stats/info on the fly. We'll also be using Roll20 for combat. Any and all programs I use in my games are free to players!

What I provide

I play virtual games (especially now with the pandemic). That being said, any and all digital files (maps, NPC pics, handouts, etc.) will be shared with players via Discord server which they can save for later use if they like.

Gameplay details

This game is an urban investigation. TW: kidnapping, murder, gang violence, cults. I use Lines and Veils as a safety tool which are established in session zero, always available in the campaign's Discord server for all to reference, and which is updated throughout the game, if necessary. I also use the X-Card rule as a safety tool in all of my games.

How will character creation work

Characters will begin at level 1. This game is for beginners so I'm expecting character creation to happen collaboratively during session 0. Feel free to come to session 0 with a character concept or a pre-built character, though. Characters will all have existing relationships with each other before the game begins and should have a solid motivation to investigate mysteries with their companions in the city of Waterdeep (these can all be established during session 0).

Players can expect

• Find a game to join solo or search for a professional game master for you and your friends/coworkers/family.
• Book your session and wait for the Game Master to approve you.
• If you don't have a blast with your first game, your next game is on us.
