About the adventure

Visit the Mythical world of Theros: a land of meddling gods, troublesome fates, fearsome monsters and heroic adventures! Test out the setting by using the Supernatural Gifts mechanics, Player Race mechanic and dealing with monsters from the Mythical Odysseys of Theros (Source book for the setting, and origin of the two encounters for this One Shot). *PART ONE* Choose a pre-made character, various options available! There will be some time for introductions before we start the first encounter: "Your group of fledgling adventurers are traveling through a mountain pass when you hear a sickly coughing from around the bend. Turning the corner, you see an old cloaked Minotaur with a crown, sitting on a large rock and hacking up a storm. Next to him is a giant Amphora 🏺-- a five-foot tall vase large enough to hold a person inside. He looks up at your group, and asks a question in a strong but ill voice: 'Will you be my successor?'. He puts a hand on the amphora and uses it to prop himself up to his cloven feet. A powerful gaze looks at each of you as he waits for an answer." > What will you do? Decide what to do in the moment, and deal with the outcomes as you see fit! The results of the situation relies on what you say to the king, and how you choose to act. *PART TWO* If time allows, there is a second encounter prepared, one that involves harpies and a mysterious lake! "Your party approaches a clearing in the mountain pass, where water trickles down a pillar of stone into a lake. The view is startling -- compared to the barren clay and stone mountain sides you've seen so far, the lush green view is almost alien. Swirling within the lake is a strange mist-like blue substance that seems almost alive. It's mesmerizing: the patterns of the water almost paint an image of something familiar, but just beyond your recognition. A glimmer of something reflective catches your eye in the translucent water formation. You step forward to get a better look, and hear chatter from above: perched on the top of the pillar, far above your heads, are harpies: part hag, part bird of prey. They chitter to each other while eyeing your party. " > This is also an encounter that will play out on your decisions. Would you investigate the water and what lies below? Will you interrogate the harpies above? Will you inspect the pillar that seems to be creating water from nothing? *PART THREE(???)* This is an experiment of an ambitious scale: this One Shot could lead you into a "Living Theros Campaign", if you want! This is where multiple Parties and DMs are collaborating in a shared instance of the world: actions performed by one party could ripple out and affect other parties in the game! If you like the One Shot, be a part of this awesome experience and interact with other Player Parties by proxy! Ask to join a campaign in Theros, and I'll help you get set up with another of our DMs, taking your character (or a new one) to their setting! (Involved Game Masters so far are Jordan Legros, Katie, and myself). If you're already excited to jump right into a campaign, and skip this One Shot, check out Jordan Legros' campaign: https://startplaying.games/join-campaign/heroes-of-theros-children-of-destiny-1602963822141x271412897444266000 !!! So, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Grab your sword, don your helmet, say a quick prayer, and venture into the mythical world of Theros!

How to prepare

Bring your character sheet (digital or physical), dice (digital or phsyical), have a Discord account along with an audio input ready, and pencil/pen and paper for notes is optional. I encourage knowing the basics of D&D, and love to recommend this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJmFJXf3BXjwXkNFo_-iwtHb24AuJcXqx for absolute beginners, people still unsure of the rules, and returning players wanting to learn 5e basics. But you don’t need to memorize the rules: I’ll be helping out if someone gets stuck or is unsure :)!

What I provide

I will bring my own set of dice, and something I consider my personal take on figurines and battle maps: I use legos, cardboard, and dry-erase boards to allow extreme flexibility! I will also be bringing 6 different digital character sheets ready for the session!

Gameplay details

This is a Theros One Shot, so I ask that Players choose one of the pre-made character sheets at level 1: Choose from the adaptable Human, cunning Centaur, lion-like Leonin, fearsome Minotaur, revelrous Satyr, or aquatic Triton! (I will provide resources and help with that!) This session will be for Level 1 characters, and be geared towards role play, so if you or someone you know is interested in a first ever role play session of D&D, feel encouraged to consider!
