About the adventure
It is the year 893 of the fourth age, the Age of Ash. In this campaign setting, you will explore the ruins of civilizations past and uncover a history lost to the flames of a global cataclysm. Dark secrets lie in the deep places underfoot, and tensions rise amongst those who seek to reclaim the earth. Discover what great and terrible force broke the world, to what desperate lengths it drove your ancestors, and how you will define yourself as you endeavor to reclaim what was lost. This game will emphasize character-based role-play, interspersed with overworld and dungeon exploration. This is a starter campaign designed to bring you from 1st to 6th level characters, and will present considerable challenge at times. I've written this game on the basis of Justen Brown's 'For Gold & Glory' (a free retro-clone of AD&D 2nd Edition), but am willing to adapt to 5E per unanimous player request. I've GM'd this campaign for new players with success, though experienced players may find it more rewarding.
How to prepare
Required equipment includes: personal computer, internet connection, PDF viewer/editor, and a microphone. It is recommended that players download a copy of the rulebook (or purchase it, if they feel so inclined) for the purpose of character creation. The PDF format of the rulebook is free, and available for download at https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/156530/For-Gold--Glory
What I provide
I will be providing custom art assets including character tokens and sketches, handouts representative of in-game items, and custom maps of the region, starting town, and various encounters as the campaign progresses. Sessions will also employ curated art from the public domain and royalty-free music where appropriate.
For Gold & Glory is a free retro-clone of AD&D 2nd Edition, available through DriveThruRPG https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/156530/For-Gold--Glory It is generally considered a more in-depth system than 5E, though in my experience the flow of encounters and general session structures are comparable. A typical session will last from 3-4 hours. Sessions will vary in composition depending on story progress, with early and late game being more oriented to role-play and overworld exploration and the mid-game focusing more on dungeon delving. The campaign will be tailored to meet players' expectations, and I will look for regular feedback to ensure overall direction provides the desired experience.
