About the adventure

Slay dragons! Fight giants! Explore catacombs! Sail the stars! You’ve watched Community, Stranger Things, Rick & Morty, or Honor Among Thieves. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, or Game of Thrones has captivated you. And you want more. What if I told you that you could be a part of the story and that playing the world’s most popular roleplaying game is easier than you think? Join me, a 32-year veteran of Dungeons and Dragons for 2-3 hours a week as I teach you how to play this game I love so much I want others to love it, too. We’ll start off with learning how to use your character sheet (which I will provide) to defeat dreadful monsters and cunning villains. Over the weeks, we’ll learn how to interact more and more with the world of high fantasy that is waiting to be explored. By the time you’re done, you’ll have made your very own character, complete with a custom hand-drawn image, ready to join a full-on campaign

Additional Details

How to prepare

You will need a mic of some sort. Headphones are needed to prevent audio feedback. A free Discord account is required. A free D&D Beyond account is required. It will help if you read the Basic Rules which are available for free on D&D Beyond ahead of time, but that is not required. You will be provided with a digital copy of your character sheet. I suggest printing it out ahead of time, as a physical copy is helpful. You will need a way to take notes about what has happened in the world. Many people just keep a word document open while playing. Digital dice will be provided in Discord, but if you want to use your own dice and video cast the rolls, that is fine, too.

Gameplay details

Everyone is expected to treat each other like they are astoundingly precious and irreplaceable. Because we all are. The most important safety tool I use is the Open Door. Anyone can take a break at any time. But more importantly, my "virtual door" is open all the time. If someone or something is bothering you, doesn't seem right, or you just need someone to talk to, hit me up. If the session goes over 2 hours, we will have a brief break to attend to biological needs. This is also a great time to unwind from the game and talk about gardening and powerlifting memes. After each session, we will conduct a Stars and Wishes session. This may be done by messaging at times. And all of this will be discussed more in Session 0. Gameplay will evolve as you learn the game. Tiered rules exposure will help you develop as a roleplayer and a rules-knower.

How will character creation work

You will initially be provided with pre-generated characters and taught how to play using these. That way, you can focus on roleplaying and learning. As we move deeper into this, you will create your very own character, complete with custom hand-drawn art.

Players can expect

• Find a game to join solo or search for a professional game master for you and your friends/coworkers/family.
• Book your session and wait for the Game Master to approve you.
• If you don't have a blast with your first game, your next game is on us.
