About the adventure
In Scum & Villainy the players embody scrappy freelancers trying to make ends meet in The Procyon Sector, a distant system (ostensibly) controlled by the Galactic Hegemony, a powerful empire ruling from the center of the galaxy. There are spaceships, robots, aliens, and ancient technology, taking inspiration from media like Cowboy Bebop, Firefly, & Star Wars. Scum & Villainy is created by Stras Acimovic & John Leboeuf-Little and uses the Forged in the Dark system. Each session feels like a TV episode where the crew will get a mission, get into some trouble, and hopefully come out of it a little more prosperous (taking some stress, injuries, and complications along the way). Oneshot premise: Your crew of bounty hunters has been hired by Arlox of the Ashen Knives, a dangerous criminal syndicate known for their control of gambling and assassinations in the sector, to capture Cho-Tyrek, a mercenary who has left a job unfinished and deserted with his quarry. Cho was supposed to secure a small Urbot, a robot with a core processing system derived from ancient mysterious technology, named Ara-Ini who was being studied by a laboratory on the planet Warren in the Rin system. The researchers discovered something in her code related to the Hantu gate, an ancient warp gate that has been out of commission since before the Hegemony occupied the Procyon sector. This fact alone makes her a target of interest to half the organizations in the sector. The Ashen Knives don't want to see one of their hired guns becoming the centerpiece of a new conflict with major galaxy-wide repercussions. Some say the Hantu Gate holds valuable secrets, others suspect it was closed for a reason...

Gameplay details
Gameplay is structured like a job in a procedural TV show. The crew is given a mission and have a chance to do research before jumping headfirst into conflict. The game uses a fiction first d6 dice pool mechanic. The player describes what they want to do and picks one of their actions then the GM describes the risk and efficacy of their action. After the player can spend resources to modify the roll before rolling a number of d6 equal to their action rating taking the best result. On a 6 they succeed! On a 4-5 they succeed with a consequence prescribed by the fiction. On a 1-3 the fail and receive consequences prescribed by the fiction. It is heavily inspired by the game Blades in the Dark.
