About the adventure

Pirates no longer rule the seas. They prey upon the merchants like parasites instead of sharks. However, piracy is increasing in the Korinn Archipelago. The further west you sail from the mainland, the greater the risk is of running into pirate ships. You have been kidnapped from your home by slavers, and are being sailed toward one of the pirate strongholds of the archipelago. Our adventure will begin a few days into your journey, when a violent squall hits the ship you are held captive inside. "The Treasure Hunt" is a 5th edition re-skin of a classic D&D module which starts players at level 0 as slaves on a pirate ship -- pick your race and background occupation, but gain your class through your character's actions in the adventure. This is a short adventure in six mini-episodes that can likely be finished in half as many sessions and your character will reach level one and gain a class by the end of it all. For new players: This adventure will allow you to learn the game as you play by building your character sheet an item at a time as it becomes relevant in the game. You can to learn the game WITHOUT having to read a ton of rules beforehand For veteran players: Enjoy the challenge of attempting to survive as a level 0 grunt and the experience of playing a classic module from the original D&D.

How to prepare

No prep work or TTRPG knowledge is required as you will all learn by adventuring together You will need a microphone; webcam is optional, but encouraged. (your faces help me read the room) We *can* play without Discord or Roll20, but they are free and totally worth it: https://discord.com/ https://roll20.net/ some notes: Discord can be run from a mobile app, browser, or desktop application. Roll20 requires a desktop browser Discord and Roll20 can both roll dice -- sometimes directly from character sheets. I will install bots in our server to manage dice and music while we play and I will teach you how to build character sheets in Roll20 *If you would like me to make you a personalized token for use on Roll20, send me an image for your character and tell me your favorite color for the border.

What I provide

I will bring all the official and unofficial resources we'll need to play D&D as well as: *Your own private Discord server to run our game on (optional) *personalized tokens for you to use on Roll20 (optional) *a soundtrack to our game *bad pirate jokes and a bunch of voices that will hurt my throat

Gameplay details

This adventure totally welcomes new players. Character building will be quick and simple as level 0 captives have few skills and no possessions. If unsure how to play, you will learn by playing through this module. Everybody will draw up 2 characters - one main and one backup in case your main one dies. I will not be pulling punches, but when I've run this, nobody has died twice -- yet. I will be doing voices and roleplaying all NPCs. You are welcome to do the same with your character, but it is not required.

How will character creation work

We will use our first meeting to draw up characters. Players will choose a race and background only. Everything else will be sorted out and assigned through the course of play. [If you are curious and own the books: we are drawing from Player's Handbook, Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, and Ghosts of Saltmarsh -- you do NOT need to own these or even know what they are to play]

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Medium
  • Roleplay: Medium
  • Puzzles: Low
