About the adventure

Old Dread | 5e Homebrew Swashbuckling Mystery | Mondays 3pm Pacific The people of Amesi send word of sunken ships, swelling tides, and citizens disappearing. Days later, as the Gizhasheim Gazetteer arrives in Blötsburrok, corpses begin turning up along the eastern coast. With more and more antsy political refugees fleeing to this hideaway town as a capital expo tours the province, one thing remains certain, will the people of Blötsburrok escape into the nigh unsailable waters between the coast and Amesi? Risk the stagnant, windless water of the Typhaon Still, or flounder as they are collapsed upon by roaming ministers? "Old Dread" is a long-term campaign set in an overarching homebrew setting. This campaign in particular is a mixture of hard fantasy, lovecraftian horror, and victorian aestheticism all bundled together in a swashbuckling-filled package! Think Pirates of the Caribbean meets One Piece. The Traitor Baru Cormorant meets Paranormal Fantasy. Ghost ships, canons, pirates, ancient sea creatures and all! Voyage eastward to long-uncharted waters, or skirt the coast of the mainland and learn just why the people fear the Clockwork Capital...

How to prepare

Stable, reliable internet connection and audio quality required. Video preferred but totally optional. We will be using D&DBeyond for character sheets, and Discord for voice, video, campaign tracking, and battlemaps.

What I provide

I have access to all official content on D&DBeyond as well as animated battle maps which we will be using via a screensharing VTT method. I prefer this approach as I feel it best emulates an at-the-table feel and reduces the amount of tabs and things for people to keep track of!

Gameplay details

Session Zero allows the players to take the floor, ask questions about the setting, make requests for content they would (or would not) like to see. We will get you oriented with the Also Dragons server, discuss house rules and general community dynamic, and go through content-consent checklists to gauge levels of comfortability with subject matter that may (but will likely not) arise.

Content warnings

How will character creation work

Characters will start at 3rd level, in call, to allow for discussion of potential backstory connections and to allow consistency with the rest of the party. Nothing worse than a player making a character they are passionate about only to find that it's not a good fit for the setting or the party! There are some other details around equipment and house rules that will be elaborated on in Session Zero and may inform some player choices!

  • Roleplay: High
  • Puzzles: Low
