Introduction to D&D for Kids (Adults, see other game session)

About the adventure
Dungeons and Dragons teaches kids a host of useful life skills. Over time they will learn problem solving, teamwork and cooperation, critical thinking, situational assessment, social interaction, and how to wait their turn. It also reinforces math and literacy skills along with creativity and the use of imagination. I am currently in graduate school for a Master's in Education and I have used examples from my Kids D&D sessions in my classwork. This is my personally created, fully tested and proven way to get kids into D&D. I have taught over 50 children how to play D&D this way with the youngest being 6 when they started. The oldest was 15. This is a 2-hour session. The first hour we talk about basics of the game and make up characters. This is achieved by a limited list of options and a complete walk through sheet that keeps us all moving forward. In this hour children get to choose their character ancestry as well as their class (main job in the game). They will roll dice to help determine characteristics of their character and they will get their starting gear. Then it's time for the adventure which is another hour that includes social interaction, exploration, a minor moral dilemma, and some combat. Player characters will make an impact in the world and the players will now have taken their first steps into the world of Dungeons & Dragons. Two Hours is a pretty decent length of time - it's a movie basically. So I priced the session similar to a movie ticket. However, this is a lean forward experience where players are engaged mentally as opposed to passive consumption of someone else's story (most video entertainment).
How to prepare
