Dungeons & Dragons 5e on D&D Beyond, Discord, Owlbear Rodeo, Physical Battlemap, Theater of the Mind
About the adventure
North of the Spine of the World and west of the towering Reghed Glacier is a frigid expanse few dare to explore, let alone inhabit. This icy land of windswept tundra recently became locked in a perpetual, dark winter without reprieve. Auril, the Frostmaiden, the divine embodiment of winter's fury, has withdrawn to this cold corner of the world to live among mortals. Further, she has a cast a terrible spell over Icewind Dale, to the detriment of most of its denizens.. The people of Icewind Dale know Auril's wrath when they feel it, and they have a name for then unending winter she has inflicted upon them. They call it the Everlasting Rime. No one understands why the Frostmaiden has imposed her will in this way or why the other gods refuse to challenge her. This prolonged winter, which has gone on for more than two years, threatens to doom not just the flickering lights of civilization known as Ten-Towns but also the indigenous flora and fauna that need sunlight and the change of seasons to survive.. The fate of Icewind Dale is in your hands now brave adventurers.... ------ Icewind Dale: RIme of the Frostmaiden is D&D 5e adventure intended for four to six players designed to take players from levels 1 to 11. This module features heavy open-world/survival elements that pose a unique challenge for players. Your adventures have the potential of shaping the fate of the region, and may even put you face to face with the Frostmaiden herself! How to prepare
Webcam and mic are both necessary. Familiarity with the rules is welcome but not required. Sessions will be hosted on Discord. Bring your dice, some snacks, and send me a copy of your character sheet. I make use of physical rulebooks, dice, battle-mat, and miniatures. Feel free to use digital options at your own preference.
What I provide
I grew up playing D&D with minimal means and I still enjoy the nostalgia this provides. I make use of a battle-mat, top down camera, hand painted 3-D printed miniatures, and the occasional silly voice to emulate the experience that you would typically find if you were seated together around a table. I sometimes make use of props, and I will often need to share documents & images with you online.
Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden was released during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and features themes of isolation, desperation, and survival. This campaign is heavily open-world/survival based and poses unique threats to players of all experience levels. Sessions will be held on Discord, with a "Session 0" prior to the session for assistance in character creation , and to discuss expectations/table etiquette. 5e Dungeons and Dragons ruleset, set in the Icewind Dale region of the Forgotten Realms.
Safety tools used
How will character creation work
Feel free to use whatever method you are most comfortable with to create your character. DnDBeyond is a great tool, and I more than encourage that for newcomers to the game as it will walk you through the character creation process. I prefer to roll for stats over the over point buy method. You will be sent some "prep material" pending approval of your application. 1st level characters are the best fit for this module, following 5e Dungeons & Dragons character creation rules. I will be available on Discord throughout the process to assist you with any guidance or questions about the process. There are no hard character creation limits however setting specific options, such as those in Ravnica, Theros, Wildemount, and Eberron, might need adjustment for use in the Forgotten Realms setting. All published 5e WotC content is acceptable. UA is generally okay (unless it has since seen published revisions by WotC), and homebrew content needs to be run past me first.
