About the adventure
The library-turned-city of Candlekeep sits atop a rocky crag overlooking the Sea of Storms. The many books that lie within attract scholars like a flame attracts moths. Historians, sages, and others who crave knowledge flock to this library fortress to peruse its vast collection of books, scribbled into which are the answers to the mysteries that bedevil them. Many of these books contain their own mysteries—each one a doorway to adventure. You, a budding adventurer in the vast lands of the Sword Coast have responded to the call to aid from a small farming community in the Green Fields called Greenest. The rains that usually come around this time of year have mysteriously stopped- crops have withered and failed to produce, leaving the townspeople and livestock as thin as toothpicks. At the recommendation of the town sage, you seek a man named Matreous, beginning the journey to Candlekeep.

How to prepare
I use discord primarily for voice (video isn't required), and roll20 for the virtual table top. Both are able to be used in your internet browser so the only things you should need is a microphone and a stable internet browser like Firefox or Chrome. Nothing else is needed!
What I provide
I will be providing character sheets as well as tokens for each character, and of course the adventure!
Gameplay details
This game is fairly lighthearted, however as with many D&D games there will likely be themes of death. We will be using the X card as well as doing a post session "Roses and Thorns". The X card can be used at any point if a participant is uncomfortable with the content happening in-game. When the X card is used by tapping the card or typing an “X” in the chat, the group can change, rewind, or skip the content. Roses and Thorns are used to reflect on the session and communicate feedback in a positive and forward-facing way. At the end of the game, everyone will state at lease one Rose and one Thorn. Roses are things that the participants really enjoyed and loved about the game. This could include a particular moment of roleplay, an encounter created by the GM, or anything else that stuck out as something awesome during the game. Thorns are things that the participants would like to see in future sessions. This could include particular interactions between characters, potential story moments and development, or anything else that could make the game even better in the future.

How will character creation work
Since this is a "learn to play" game, characters will be pre-generated so that we can get playing as quickly as possible and get everyone introduced into how the mechanics of the game works without being super overwhelming. There will be a wide variety of character available to choose from so don't worry, we'll get you something that you'll enjoy!
