About the adventure

Barovia, a land where the endless parade of grey days is interrupted only by sudden downpours, as though the sky were weeping for the Barovian plight, and thunder complains for the Barovians— No! We shall not go quietly into a life of misery! We know it is not right! We know we deserve better than what the devil on the mountain inflicts on us! But when lightning flashes, the vampire Strahd von Zarovich can be seem looming on the ramparts of Castle Ravenloft, and quiet fear takes the valley once more. He is ancient, He is the land. Join me as the latest band of adventurers to be lured into this land of gothic horror. To my eyes, and to many others, Curse of Strahd is the best adventure published for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition. Venture into a realm of darkness, of abandoned mansions, werewolves in the wood, and vampires atop black castle spires. This game is newbie friendly and uses safety tools!

How to prepare

Players should have a microphone, a stable Internet connection, access to Zoom or Discord (player's choice for video call), and a Roll20 account. No need to make your character yet!

What I provide

I have a DnDBeyond subscription and can share player content to help people make their characters. I can also provide curated homebrew character options!

Gameplay details

Curse of Strahd is a gothic horror sandbox, where players can wander into challenges far too dangerous for them and escape by the skin of their teeth. My favorite thing about the campaign is how real, full, and deadly the world feels. It's also a roleplay-heavy campaign. You're usually dealing with some form of psychological drama at any of the Barovian settlements, negotiating with or tiptoeing around dangerous people, and acting as beacons of light in a hopeless land. As a horror module, Curse of Strahd has darker material than your standard Dungeons and Dragons fare, which we'll endeavor to handle sensitively as a group. I've found that a session 0 and Lines and Veils are the best and most consistent safety tools. For those who don't know, Lines and Veils refers to the handling of triggering subject matter in TTRPGs; lines are topics that a player doesn't want anywhere near a game and veils are topics that can be alluded to, but not shown directly "on-screen". In session 0, besides making characters, we'll establish how we'll handle the darkest material in the module.
